Things changed after the industrial revolution. People worked in large corporations as part of a large supply chain. Humans became appendages of machines. They could barely see the end product of their daily actions. Industries required specialization in a particular job. While specialization increased productivity, it also led to repeatedly performing the same job. The strict organizational hierarchy was characterized by formal work relationships. The employees did not know each other except their immediate superior and subordinate. They were not expected to befriend their coworkers at workplaces. The human element was lost at work.

Wages increased, but money above a certain point is useless. That is why people began to develop hobbies, seek leisure activities, go to theaters, anything that could entertain them, which led to the explosion of the entertainment industry.

Corporations today recognize this problem and to increase employee motivation, create a friendly environment in the workplace. Superiors are encouraged to be friendly and informal with subordinates. Creativity and innovation can only come if employees are motivated.

I think job satisfaction is a rare product. Because the capitalists focus on making a profit, which in turn has an impact on workers' wages. Dozens of employees are not paid their value. I do not understand why companies that pay dividends to all shareholders also do not recognize the hard work of workers as an investment. They don't if they did, won't they be paid their value? Careers in Social Work, Travel can offer the same opportunity but they are also jobs. Jobs are not designed to be satisfying. You have to find satisfaction in your life.

You can't run before you walk

Over time, as you improve in your profession, you can become more creative and begin to influence the scope of work.

It is a mistake to think that job satisfaction means that you need to enjoy your job every day and do something you love. Especially when you start your career, jobs are repetitive, monotonous, and often redundant. That's why they pay us to make them.

Over time, as you develop your skills and accomplishments, your job becomes easier and you can take on more advanced projects or get involved in more creative work and less at work.

At this point, some people decide to simply focus on making and using their spare capacity in their hobbies and social activities. Jobs / careers are not meant to be satisfying. They are meant to pay for the lives we want to live.

The world needs senior specialists who want to work together to change the world

If you consider social work and travel to be different than a job / career, you will be disappointed. They are jobs like any other. Seeing them as an escape can be rewarding and make us feel good; however, these are not jobs. These are social endeavors.

Consider this:

  1. You quit now and become a freelance social worker, which on paper sounds great. Once you start working, you realize that the same structure applies in social work. Also, you constantly see things that you can't fix because you don't have a network or resources.
  2. You refocus on being the best you can be in your field, improving your skills and retraining yourself. You network in your field and focus on it as a professional. His long-term goal is to build networks of people who can directly influence and solve the world's problems through money and influence. After 10 years, you form a charity and leverage your reputation and network to begin affecting necessary but impossible changes on an individual level.

The life is a trip. If you want to see the highest peaks, you must fight through the darkest jungles.


If you see a career in travel or social work as a job that aligns with the skills and life you want to live and that gives you the platform to improve your skills, go for it. I'm not sure if this would qualify as exclusive to my country. But it is certainly unique to my place. I belong to Mumbai, India and the unique job that does not exist anywhere else in the world, but Mumbai would certainly be that of "Mumbai Dabbawalas".

A 'Dabbawala' is a person who carries a lunch box. Since the common man in Mumbai prefers to eat home-cooked food rather than food from outside, these dabbawalas collect freshly made food in lunch boxes from their clients 'residence and deliver them to their respective clients' office. The most unique thing I find about these Dabbawalas is that most of them do not have a good education (the average literacy rate for Dabbawalas is eighth grade). Therefore, it is quite obvious that none of them know any management theory. However, each person receives their own lunch box every day and none is ever exchanged. This is governed by a unique coding system developed by Dabbawalas.


Management:

Dabbawalas move through Mumbai traffic and go up and down multi-story buildings every day to collect lunch boxes. They carry between 30 and 40 lunch boxes on their bike at a time. Then, they arrive at the nearest train station, where they gather to sort the boxes according to their destination according to the coding system. These boxes are then transported by different Dabbawalas that travel to different parts of the city via local Mumbai trains. They carry an immense weight on their head as each box carries around 60 lunch boxes. They move through Mumbai traffic, crowded platforms, and onto local trains jammed with extreme heat, rain, and cold.

Oh, I almost forgot! This is not over yet. These dabbawalas go through the same process again to bring the lunch boxes from the offices to their respective residences before 6pm. It is a 9 hour duty cycle. They have done so for the past 125 years, without stopping for a day until they went on strike in 2011 to support Anna Hazare in her campaign against corruption.


It is a great example of teamwork. The whole system is based on trust and goodwill.
