I keep coming back to this question in hopes of having an epiphany and being able to help, but the reality, and I do it for a living, is that there is NOT ONE online job site that is the best. Let me explain.

Job Sites - Almost every major site can help, including Indeed, Monster, Linkup, Jobbook, Simplyhired, The Ladders, Dice, and the list goes on. Some:

  • You pay and some don't
  • You search and some seek you
  • Focus on specific niche areas and some are general


but at the end of the day you will probably need at least two or three of these sites to cover most of it

but at the end of the day you will probably need at least two or three of these sites to cover most of your bases.

Job Search Management - There are a small number of sites that can help you manage the job search process and the one that immediately comes to mind is Clever Careerist. As I often tell my clients, keeping track of the process is one of the most difficult parts of the process.

Recruiters - Jobs posted to recruiters' websites don't always appear in job site engines, so you need to develop a comprehensive list of suitable recruiters and keep track of their offers.

This is not the most complete answer, but I hope it provides at least some perspective.

To be successful in your job search, you need to know 2 things:

  1. Networks triumph over everything else
  2. The amount of effort invested in the job search is directly proportional to the results obtained.

As a job seeker, there are few things you will always seek help in the workplace.

My understanding is that most recruiters have preferences for candidates who are active and not passive around the world. There isn't much help for recruiters other than some social media portals like LinkedIn. Although there are many sites that claim to be active looking for work, it does not reflect much on the process.

For example, if there is a duplication of profile, most recruiters do not consider the candidacy for obvious political reasons that could annoy their bosses and the consulting organizations that work with them. The end result is that the candidate loses the opportunity to meet their challenges.

I recently went through Union Bonus Work, which has solved this challenge wonderfully using a reliable methodology without compromising candidate privacy. It's also good to consider your feedback mechanism, which can potentially create better employee engagement during the hiring stages.

They create visibility for you, as they focus only on active candidates, it is easy for them to do so (passive job seekers are in the hundreds of millions as opposed to active job seekers).

Also, the people you meet with may meet other people you can meet with. Lastly, you can cold call a company and explain what you want to do. (Can work). When you communicate with a person, just explain your interest in your type of job or work area and ask for at least 30 minutes of their time. When you meet them, be prepared to ask open-ended questions that make them share so that you can learn. Of course, follow up with a thank you email or handwritten note. Keep doing this step with as many people as possible. As you learn more, you can change your interests or move in a different direction. It is a reasonable question. Many times you will not need to ask. As you meet more and more people and find your match, offers will come in. That sounds too good to be true, but it happens because companies hire many more people than are listed in the jobs. And here you are showing interest and being on top of someone's mind.

That's it. I would suggest giving it a try. It is much more fruitful than sending dozens of resumes to the black holes of the application and waiting passively for answers that, in most cases, will not arrive. It is an active approach that takes control of your life and helps you pursue what you want. And works. Plus, when you do get the job, you're much more likely to be a good fit, since you've been looking for the position and doing your research.
