Suppose computer science is the apple and computer engineering / software engineering is the orange. Logically speaking, Computer Science and Computer Engineering / Software Engineering are intrinsically identifiable in the area of ​​'Computers' just as apples and oranges belong to the same set or group called 'Fruits'.

They both belong to the same field and the same applies to software engineering. People often confuse the three fields. In reality, computer science is the most theoretical of the bunch.

Third point: it is obvious that coding is mandatory if you want to go with CSE. I suppose you are afraid of programming because you did not practice well or did not receive enough help while learning to program. If you study well from day one at your university, I can bet you can overcome fear. There are many programming related videos available on YouTube that you can use as a guide. Besides programming, there are several other courses in CSE such as digital logic, computer theory, computer networks, operating systems, etc. and they are all very interesting.

Fourth point: after completing the course, you can look for a job in IT companies or go to M. Tech or go to MBA. In IT companies, your programming skills and problem-solving skills are sure to be tested. For M. Tech, you need to take for GATE to gain admission to IIT or NIT or top universities and this exam requires theoretical knowledge. I don't have a lot of knowledge about MBA, so I'm not talking about that.

To be frank, no school in India could match the level of MIT and UCB, not because the people are not good enough, but because we don't have funds to make them world class. MIT annually is endowment ($ 36 billion). And the cumulative endowment of Ivy League universities like Harward and Yale is more than India's annual spending on education. However, many of the IIT, BITS, and IIIT-H folks routinely opt for MBA / MS / PhD at these top US universities.The

following list should be considered only for choosing the school for CS. There are no comments on any other branch.

The general rule of thumb would be (for applicants looking to get a good computer science education),

1) Former IITs (B, M, D, Kgp, K)

+ A very well balanced general education
+ Well established universities
+ Strong focus on mathematics and CS theory aspects
+ Highest pay packages, Highest proportion of MS / MBA / PhD supports right after college students
+ Strongest alumni network and support system, pre-assigned credibility
+ Overseas recognized, gold-plated country brands, strong public perception
+ Active student life and wealthy, exposure to many forms of undergraduate careers
+ Government funding

IMHO the following could be considered as some weak points (I am using power, I have not been to any of those old IITs and public opinion may differ)

- Reservations
- Recently revised
fees - Need to deal with many non-computer subjects in the first year of undergraduate studies

2) IIIT-H

+ The best place after the old IITs to study CS
+ Strong faculty
+ Great focus on Computer Science from the first year for university students
+ Focus on research from the university level
+ Good placements in the sector technological (alongside previous IITs)
+ Quality of incoming students is good as there are no reservations at all (not even for PH category)
+ Strong focus on CS programming and practical aspects
+ Dual degree courses where research and submission of papers at the A lecture level are required for graduation, this gives you an opportunity to take a look at the world of research at a tender age of 20.
+ Humanities subjects as electives that act as a stress buster lend credence to the loaded structure of the course and help students understand more about life in general.

In my humble opinion, the following are cons:

- 20 to 25% higher cost of education for college students (BTech) compared to revised expenses in IIT (4 years of IIT expenses after fee revision ~ 5.5 Lakhs vs 4 years of spending IIIT-H ~ 7.25 Lakhs)
- Lacks brand recognition abroad and awareness in the general public, even about the existence of such university
- less focus on the mathematical / theoretical aspects of computer science
- lack of an active campus life and experience in college life in general
- lacks sports-related infrastructure and SAC (Student Activity Center)
- Finance and consultants do not visit campus for placements
