I worked in a 3 person department within a larger department. She was my boss, a woman who held an important position for me, and for me. Due to personnel changes in the larger department and because I was good at my job and learned new things quickly, my bosses kept piling up more work on me. It was a very large company and he ended up finding a position in another department. I ended up assuming most, if not all, of his responsibilities.

Not long after that, my immediate boss, whom I loved, was expelled and forced into early retirement. I think he was in his 60s at the time. This was and continues to be common practice at that company. They offer acquisitions to older employees, sometimes they're optional, and sometimes it's just a "nice" way to fire you. We had a nice goodbye party for him. Once he left, they didn't replace him. Some of his responsibilities went elsewhere, but most ended up on my lap. I wish they hadn't expelled him, but I still didn't mind the extra work. Through all of this, I had been getting 4% annual raises, but since I started work right after college for pennies, 4% of shit is just a little more than shit. I asked for raises along the way and they always told me they had tried and couldn't get me more than that 4% per year. He had no influence unless he wanted to leave the company. I needed to go to a company that didn't know how little I was making, then I could get a higher salary that was more in line with my experience and skill level. But I loved my job and I loved that company. They gave me a nice office and an impressive title, but a horrible salary. However, I stayed. Then one of my other three bosses was forced to retire, and the boss he worked with closest was promoted to his position. She and I had a great relationship. Usually he would tell me everything, even things that he probably shouldn't have been aware of. Well, of course, they didn't want to fill her position once she was promoted, at least not right away. Then he told me that he would take on some of the responsibilities of his previous position, not all, but a good amount. I'd already been doing the work of an entire three-person department by myself, and now, they were about to drop a ton of more work in my lap. So, I went to my promoted boss's office and said, "Okay, I can handle the extra work, but how about a raise?" She looked me straight in the eye and blurted out, "Well, I spoke to the division heads, and they said we can rack up all the work we want, and we don't have to give you an extra penny." I was stunned! In fact, he said, "We don't have to give you an extra penny." This was 21 years ago and I can still hear her say it. She was my boss, but also my friend. I had worked with her for 5 years and I couldn't believe how cruelly she had told me that.

I left his office and went back to mine. I closed the door (which I almost never did) and sat at my desk dumbfounded. I pulled myself together, picked up the phone, and scheduled an interview for another job. In three weeks, I got out of there.

After a week of doing homework, I was getting used to it, but still making minor mistakes. My coworker got very rude to me for a simple mistake. I was already looking for something new, but this made me really want to go! Luckily, I got the job for the first interview I went to in the same week.

Here's more context….

I went to Graphic Design school, I was stuck in retail for 5 years. Nobody wanted to hire me because I had no work experience.

In the interview with the job I left, the owner liked that I went to Graphic Design school, so she hired me as an administrative assistant \ graphic designer. (I don't think he wants to pay someone with experience, so he hired someone who had no work experience. Because if he hired someone with experience, he would actually have to pay more money).

My original plan was to stay at this job for at least two years to get enough experience to try and get myself a graphic design job.

I thought that I would just take my time and be really picky about the type of job I wanted to get after this job. I wasn't expecting to get a job right away, it took me half a year to get out of retail!

But working for the owner has been a real nightmare, she's never happy with anything, micromanaging all aspects of the business, belittling and berating everyone. She is an absolutely horrible person. (At this point he could write a novel about all the bad things he has done)

During the Quarantine, I was working from home and my job became 100% Graphic Design job, I was scheduling social media content, I was making brochures, flyers for the company, it was becoming really fun work!
I was forced to go back to the office in October 2020. But once the new year struck, she started giving me all these administrative tasks and there were times when I would spend a week doing hardly anything related to graphic design. Work went from Clerical / Graphic Design to Graphic Design to Clerical.

But that's when it happened.

So the receptionist retired and moved to North Carolina in March, and the owner decided to spread many of her tasks among several people in the office, rather than having the new receptionist do it. (The new receptionist was already working with us, she was kind of a float. So now she's just the receptionist and the owner didn't even give her a raise for the new position!)

Anyway, there is something called Mail Graph. It involves many different tasks.

• Insert the tracking code into the UPS or USPS system to see if it was delivered.
• Put delivered and if it was not delivered, you must put the date you marked.
• If it was delivered, you must make a note in the company's system that it was delivered.
• Call the company to confirm that the package was delivered.
• Find the receipt printout with the tracking number and shipping address and write “delivered” and give it to the person who sent the package.
• Check again in a few hours to see if other packages were delivered.

If you make that much mistake, the manager will have your head!

The old receptionist was doing it and the new receptionist was having trouble keeping up, but keep in mind that the old receptionist was there for 15 years so she had really figured out a system and the new receptionist was only doing it for like a month.

The owner decided to entrust me with the new task and it takes a long time. I spent quite a few days working on this stupid chart, instead of doing everything else I do in the day. On a typical day, I make a ton of social media posts and make announcements. But the mail table was taking up all my time, the days were slowing down and I was getting in trouble for little things, although it is not something you can grasp so easily. I always forgot one of the steps by mistake.

About a week later, I got in trouble because I missed an appointment on the list and it said it was not delivered on 5/14 (I'm making the date for this example), but it was 5/15, so they got mad at me because I forgot mark it as 5/15, but I checked if the package was already delivered and it wasn't.

As if there are many steps and I have a tendency to forget one because it is still new to me.

But my coworker, he got very angry with me and I felt really insulted because we were so close. It's only been a week, it's not always easy to understand things right away. If I've been doing it for a month, then I can understand your taking an attitude about not doing it right. The old and new receptionists were getting yelled at about it too, so I know it wasn't my thing, but people could still be nicer about it.

It had only been a week and they were bullying me for making a very small mistake, and I was surprised that they got so mad at me, when they are usually so nice to me. It's not that I'm making mistakes in other things that I do.

The email graphic was the last straw, it took me all day, I couldn't do the graphic design aspect of work, the day was slowing down, and I was being yelled at for minor mistakes. That was my breaking point and I thought: I'm looking for a new job where I don't have to do any administrative chores! Fortunately, I was able to get a job in a week, and my last day is Tuesday!

Refused to take ANY phone call; We were told to say you were in a meeting, this applies to everyone. One day I got a call from her daughter's doctor at the children's hospital on the other side of the state. It was the doctor, not a secretary, assistant or nurse, the doctor himself. I broke protocol and went to his office and told him that the doctor wanted to talk to him. My boss seemed very upset that I didn't just take a message and said “tell him to call wife's name”. I went back to my desk and told the doctor that my boss wanted me to call his wife. The doctor told me that he could not locate his wife and that he needed to speak to him. Once again, I went back to my boss and delivered the message. He yelled at me "just take a message." Once again I told the doctor that I could only take one message. The doctor, now frustrated, he said: "Tell her that her daughter's kidney is working at 20% and that she needs to go to a hospital immediately." I asked the doctor to wait one more time and delivered this message to my boss. He accepted the call and hurried out of the office. That was the day I started looking.

TL; Dr. Mean boss did not accept a call from his sick daughter's doctor because he was too busy and important.

The beloved doctor and nurse practitioner left him too and last year, just before Covid-19 started. He couldn't pay his bills with the downturn in the economy. His office is now closed and he has disappeared from sight. Nobody knows what happened to him.

More a combination of things. First things first, I loved this job, I loved the company and I was doing very well. But I had never lived or worked in the lower 48 as an adult (my family moved to Alaska when I was a child). If my company had had a branch opening in the first city I ended up moving to, I would have stayed with them.

So, it was really two things: I was dying to see what it was like to live and work somewhere other than Alaska. Around the same time that an old coworker started looking for me to join his new company, my daughter started having serious problems in life.

I ended up being hired at the company and they paid for my move at low 48. Once I arrived in my new city, my daughter and granddaughter moved in with me so that my daughter could start over from a failed abusive marriage.

It was a good experience on both fronts, there were a lot of things about the bass 48 that were great, so I guess you could say that the personal experiences were "monumental" in a way of speaking.

I ended up going home to Alaska after more than 5 years, but I enjoyed my experiment of living in the lower 48. However, I am glad to be home. :)

Over a two-year period, I had a great career at an employer when I was finally promoted to a senior position in the organization. With that latest promotion came a series of responsibilities, not all that I wanted. He knew those responsibilities were part of the last promotion. In fact, I turned down the promotion twice, much to the surprise of my new boss.

I hated that last job. He didn't have to do some of those things, and he wasn't happy either.

Finally, I left, knowing that neither I nor my employer were happy with the way things were going, and I took a lower-ranking position elsewhere, where I was happier with the responsibilities.

I was in the routine of my career. Infrastructure work was disappearing due to the advent of cloud technology.

I had an infrastructure job at a software company and my manager clearly had favorites to give the interesting high-value job and gave the boring low-value job to everyone else, including me. I knew that with the way things were going my career would sink or I would lose my job.

Whenever I plan to leave an organization, I usually plan to go through the roof. So I proposed to my boss a little project for myself to automate the back-end process and meet the demands of customer service requests. The result was a 10-fold increase in back office productivity, which was estimated to be around $ 200,000 in business profits.

I never received any bonuses or increases from that, but I was able to continually improve the product that I designed. My old boring tasks slowly moved on to others.

I ended up leaving the organization as part of my exit plan. But I gained a good reputation and professional contacts.

I spent two years developing a business plan for the benefit of my former employer with a colleague only to have our plan rejected when we presented it to our board of directors.

I felt we were close to wasting two years of our lives as we had put so much effort into our planning only to be told at the last minute that the board of directors did not believe that the business model we were proposing would or would work. that we had the experience to implement the plan despite having had previous concept papers approved

We both still firmly believed in the plan and in our ability to deliver.

I felt we were close to wasting two years of our lives as we had put so much effort into our planning only to be told at the last minute that the board of directors did not believe that the business model we were proposing would or would work. that we had the experience to implement the plan despite having had previous concept papers approved

We both still believed so strongly in the plan and in our ability to comply with the plan that we had jointly developed that we both quit our previous employment to launch our own startup in competition with our former employer for the mutual benefit of our customers and suppliers and ourselves. themselves

Twenty years later we sold what had become a very successful business for $ 215 million, proving that our former bosses were wrong for not believing in our business model or ourselves all those years ago.

Once again, I learned that children are not important at all in our society. Housing children in substandard child care centers and students without the proper education was fine! I came out and am still mourning the loss of an amazing center with well-trained Early Childhood graduates. Someone else who had never done the job also applied for the position, which they got.
