What life advice would you recommend to a 50-year-old man who simply has a freelance job and is struggling to find work?

Depending on the type of freelancer, I would recommend better marketing.

Your age is not usually important. And many business owners actually trust a senior freelancer because of their time-tested work ethic.

Most freelancers make two mistakes that lead to customer shortages. And they are closely related questions:

  • stopped marketing while working with the client
  • They weren't marketing or generating leads every day.

Dan S Kennedy, a marketing genius who became a billionaire with a day of college, worked at least an hour every day on lead generation. The only exceptions were Christmas and New Years.

That means marketing is a system, like setting traps to catch animals all the time, not just when you're hungry.

I would say that working as a freelancer is not as bad as people think. Yes, you do not have security like a government or private jobs. I have worked as a freelancer for the last 4 years. I would suggest that you start slowly and do a lot of research. When working on your own, the first step is the most crucial and difficult thing to do.

I have seen people apply on various websites but they were unable to make their first sale or job. In the first 6 months you must be patient and not wait too long in terms of money, look for more investment in time and skill.

Some recommendations:

Apply on multiple platforms:

You may never know which platform works for you so keep your options always available and who knows which website might be banned in your country or not paying you.

Some of the best independent platforms:

Fiverr

Upwork

For tutoring

Chegg

Photomath

2. Skills

Obviously, you must have skills to make big money on freelance websites. You can learn basic skills like editing Youtube videos, making thumbnails and logos, proofreading, multi-subject tutoring, Microsoft Powerpoint, Photoshop, etc. And it won't take you long to learn, but it will take time to get to the professional level. so you can deliver good content that has market value.

3. hard work

No rocket science in that, you need to be extremely patient and passionate about your work to be successful.

4. Connections

Always try to use LinkedIn and Instagram to connect with the kind of people who do the same work as you. You may not know that sometimes people appreciate fighters and their amazing work. And always remember that you can easily earn a living doing freelance work. It pays better than 9 or 5 jobs.

Since you mentioned that you are 25 years old, I guess you must have already completed your bachelor's degree. If you are looking for higher education, do it, but always remember that you must enter the best universities in the country or in the world, since you are already 25 years old, you need to live and make your life independently. These 4-5 years will mark life for your future, so do not rush to make any decisions. Think, think, think before taking any step.

Or do you think it is enough that you have studied enough to look for work in the real world to be self-employed or in the private sector. Get started now.

Bonus: always try to learn basic computer programming languages. It can be HTML, Python, or C ++, etc. It will always help you in a way that you don't know about.

Have you ever heard the comment that age is only relevant if you are a cheese? Throughout my entire career, it seemed like I was one of the youngest guys in the room. Then overnight I looked around and was surprised to find that it was the oldest boy in the room. Working on my third career, I don't know why it should have been a surprise to me.

However, it was ... a reality check. But why? Who knows, especially since I am unafraid for the value I bring and my ability to continue to provide relevance in the world of a young person undergoing rapid change. Luckily, the feeling didn't last long.

Here are my top 5 tips on how I focus on staying 'one step ahead' of cheese:

Don't lean on past successes ...

There is nothing more dangerous for success in life than a great end result, right? We are "only as good as our next result." Stay paranoid.

Make a project ...

Hair salon icon Vidal Sassoon was famous for saying, "The only place you'll find success before work is in a dictionary." We have to work on ourselves. Putting pressure on ourselves. Criticize our days. Give back to society. Be our best coaches and cheer squads. All of this applies to both our personal life and our business life.

Realted Post: Continuous Learning Is The Key To Your Future Success

Keep adding to your connections and be a continuous learner ...

Woody Allen said, "85% of the secret to success is just showing up." Attend events. Make that phone call. Read that book. Do that workout. Have the courage to ask that question. Make the effort. Stay connected to what is going on around you.

It's a 'ninja' priority ...

Do more of the important things every day. Be obsessed with getting priority rights, on what is really important, every day, and make sure you spend most of your day on these priorities.

Accept the change ...

Darwin said that it was not the strongest species that survived, but the most capable of adapting to change. There will be more change in the next five years than we have seen in the last 50. Get excited about the change. Be a part of as many movements as you can. Help change things.

We have a chance in our lives.

Work hard on yourself to stay relevant if you want a chance to avoid being the cheese.

Make sure you build up a good financial cushion as you need to work to earn more! Especially if you have costs related to your work, such as hardware maintenance and travel expenses.

Make sure you build up a good financial cushion as you need to work to earn more! The thing is, you can make $ 10,000 for a single job that requires two weeks of work, but after that, you are out of work again. If it then takes you eight months to find a new job, you will end up in some financially challenging situations. Especially if you have costs related to your work, such as hardware maintenance and travel expenses.

You should have this buffer in addition to your normal savings! So if you are saving $ 15,000 for a new car, you need to make sure you save a lot more than this.

Your reserve should be large enough to cover your daily expenses for at least six months for you to feel comfortable. If it falls below three months, you need to worry and get a new job quickly. Self-employment can be very profitable when you have a job, but you will have no income if you are out of work.

This means that if you go on vacation, you won't earn anything. If you get sick, you won't gain anything. If you can't find a new job, you won't earn anything. Therefore, you have to make sure that you can survive a few months without any income.

I myself generally dedicate 10% of my income to work-related studies and tools. Another 10% goes to my savings account for my reservation. Also, I can spend 5% on hobbies and other things. This leaves 75% of my income for my daily life like rent, food, gas, electricity, Internet and other things. When this 75% is gone, you better have more income; otherwise I will go below the set threshold.

Therefore, you must calculate your monthly living costs and multiply by six. That is the amount you need to have in your savings account! Minimum! Anything else you earn can be divided into the 75/25% that I use. And if you have a regular monthly income, then this is easier than when you do several different jobs that pay infrequently.

You can earn money by spending as a freelancer on Upwork. Some people even make a living freelancers with Upwork, and fewer still have made a fortune.

I am in the second group, although I supplement that income with the independent work that I obtain through my website and personal contacts.

Here are some tips for your path to Upwork, based on my personal experience.

Starting

  1. Pick one or two areas of work that you are good at and write profiles for yourself in those areas. (Upwork allows you to have more than one job profile and will submit the appropriate one for each job you are bidding for.)

  2. Get the premium membership. This gives you access to a variety of tools and information to help you win contracts, especially a large bank of "connections", Upwork's "currency" for bidding on clients.
  3. Watch videos from successful Upwork users like Danny Margulies or Josh Burns for specific information on creating your profile, using Upwork tools, bidding, setting expectations, and more.
  4. If possible, create a portfolio of the work you have done that best fits the areas you are trying to work on. If you don't have that type of job yet, make up a few as an example. Supplement that with successful projects if you can.

Get the job

  1. Use specific language from the job description in your offer. Focus on what the customer wants.
  2. Initially, before you build a reputation, you will likely not win offers at the highest price. Instead, understand that you are there first to establish a reputation, so bid low and do some cheap work.
  3. Focus on the client's needs and not their abilities or accomplishments.

Doing the job

  1. Make sure you know all the specs beforehand - ask questions up front instead of assuming you and the customer are on the same page. Some clients don't know exactly what they need; that's part of the reason they're hiring someone else to do it.
  2. Take enough time to complete the job, even if something comes up or the customer requests corrections. Turn it in before the deadline.
  3. If it is a longer project (this is unlikely with your early offers), keep the client informed of your progress.

Promoting your strengths

  1. When the job is done, ask for a recommendation. They will have to write one for Upwork, and that is enough. Upwork will show you.
  2. You can ask for a specific compliment. “Dear ___, it was a pleasure working for you. I am new to Upwork so your rating will mean a lot to me. If you found my work to be of high quality and completed in a timely manner, and insert your specific strengths here, I'd love for you to include it in my evaluation. Just a sentence or two would go a long way. Thanks, ____."

Be patient and aim for milestones

  1. Talent on the rise. Check out the descriptions on the Upwork help board and try to get it as quickly as possible. I had to write them down and point out that I was qualified based on the qualifications and my short time there. Unfortunately, shortly after correcting them, I "timed out" of the program, so I did not get the full benefit. So stay tuned.
  2. The most valued. Again, see Upwork for more details. The best Upworkers consistently score high. Being in this group means that people come looking for you. And you get benefits, like being able to get a particular bad score periodically, which helps you keep your grades up.
  3. 1,000 hours on Upwork. Clients can rank based on their experience, so sometimes accepting hourly jobs at slightly lower rates will help you improve your experience and then see jobs that other freelancers won't be able to see or bid.
  4. $ 10,000 in Upwork. As with completed hours, reaching milestones like this sends a signal to potential customers that you are the best of the best. Clients will come looking for you soon.

I hope this helps!

Many people prefer to work as a freelancer rather than working 9 to 5 hours a day.

This is because people prefer to be their own boss rather than having a nettle boss.

Not everyone likes to go to offices and work, leaving their home and families and even neglecting their health.

People prefer to pursue their passion simply by sitting on their couches and working as a freelancer.

Well, if you've been working somewhere for so long and got tired of routine ups and downs without any increment, then you can pursue your passion any day by freelancing.
