What job sites do millennials use to look for work?

Millennial versus Generation X versus Baby Boomer is mostly bullshit that a psychologist made up to explain how different we are.

If you are a Millennial, your parents are Baby Boomers and they will go to the same places to look for work. Why? Because there are 4 main job boards that pay $$$$ for SEO traffic:

  1. Indeed
  2. Monster
  3. Career builder
  4. LinkedIn

If you Google jobs in your field, it will take you to Indeed or Monster. They pay the most money to drive SEO traffic.

The BEST jobs are not found on job sites. Lazy recruiters post jobs on Indeed to meet their interview quota for the week. Not finding the best candidates.

The best candidates are not looking for workplaces. They are too busy doing their job.

Find a better job without using a job site. Cold call 20 companies you admire and schedule an appointment with a hiring manager. Invite them out for coffee. You will get 18 no and 2 yes.

Make another call to the other 18 companies and you will get 16 no and 2 yes again. It is a universal ratio.

Do yourself a favor and stop looking for work on job sites. Job sites have been created to make money for human resources departments and not to help people find work.

I know this because I ran a company that spent $ 30,000 per year to post jobs and our hiring success was less than 5% ……… .Atrocious. HR recruiters love this because it saves them from having to work to find good candidates.

Do yourself a favor and stop looking for work online. It is a fool's game.

Thinking short term (no vision):

Are you frustrated by your work from time to time? Do you hate your boss or work? Do you dream every time you meet a colleague? Congratulations. You are one of those people who think short term. A person spends an average of 30 years working. And are you out of stock in just 2 or 3 years? That is all? Have you seen people who are not stable and just keep changing jobs just for a 10% higher salary not caring how it will affect their profile for future jobs? Very few people have a passion or a fixed career. Most millennials lack vision and mission. Everyone wants that amazing beach house, fancy cars, lots of money, etc., but no one wants to work really hard, go through these hardships, and fight for it. How many of you have set a goal, An objective? The longest you can think of in July is where you are I will be traveling to in December. How many of you have your financial goals set? Retirement planning? Investment plans?

Not updating:

The companies you work for, how much do you really know about them? I mean history, future plans, financial performance, important milestones, organizational structure, etc. Nobody. Have you seen your company's database? The knowledge bank they have? How many of you have ever read that? You know how much time and money those companies have spent accumulating that information, and you are just one click away from accessing it. You get paid to do that! But nobody wants to stay updated. Just open your system, do your work, and go. What about adding value? Remember, there is no growth unless you add some value. It is an outright truth. Keep me updated with the news to come. Strive to do your job differently. Take time, do some homework.

Writing shit on their resumes:

Strong team worker, committed leader, focused and hard-working. Team management skills, communication skills, I've managed big projects, I've been to the moon and back, blah blah.

If you are so good, why are you looking for work? Why can't you survive in your current company? Stop writing such vague and generic lines on your resumes. All Tom Dicks and Harry have those phrases on their resumes. Do you think reading those sentences is making the recruiter believe you? Shit. You have to put things that show how you have really added value and how you can do it. What about people who don't give out cover letters along with the resume? Read about cover letters and their importance. Write stuff that is really relevant to the job profile, not your generic bullshit. Write down how you can add value and not just what you've already done.

Not reading enough:

I cannot stress enough on this. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, the richest people in the world who if they started spending a million dollars a day could live generously until the day they die, and probably even their children could spend half their lives ending that wealth. Spend 4-6 hours a day reading. Period. Do I need to say more? What do you know about the political system in your country? Your favorite sport? No, not the current updates, but the actual background and history of it. Business environment? Do you have an opinion on the upcoming elections? What about upcoming technologies? Any ideas on what 2030 would be like? A man of knowledge will beat a man of talent in the long run. Read books, read newspapers, read your topic. Read read read!

Medical assistants, teachers, secretaries, government / military workers, nurses, restaurant managers ... We work normal jobs: factories, small businesses, larger companies, healthcare ... Some people are very unlucky and need help to recover. Let that sink in for a moment.

Now let's consider two hypothetical people: a 15-year-old female employee and a 35-year-old female employee. I think it's safe to say that each of these two people is probably at different times in their lives, in terms of education, work history, experience level, income goal, geographic mobility, industry, etc.

In general, it seems that Millennials can be divided into two large groups, 18-24 and 25-35. I'd say 18-24 year olds, fresh out of high school, college, and / or graduate school, qualified for an entry-level job, are looking for:

1. Maximum learning / skills acquisition opportunities (internships!)
2. Networking (to highlight, fill out your resume, LinkedIn profile, etc.)
3. Location-industry match (finance in New York, tech in SF, filmmaking in Los Angeles, etc.).)

Whereas, 25 to 35 year olds, probably in their second or third job, look at:

1. Compensation (these people have "paid their dues" so to speak)
2. Work-life balance (flexibility in terms of geographic mobility, work from home and other remote arrangements, 3-day weekends, travel partial, etc.)
3. VIP (Visibility, Impact, Promotion: build a legacy and a personal brand)

Example 1 Tristan Walker and FourSquare

Then Tristan emailed the CEO of Foursquare for the ninth time and said, "I've lined up some advertisers for you."

This time, the CEO replied. They met the next day. Tristan went on to lead Business Development at Foursquare.

Tim- Thank you very much for your answer. Here are my answers to your questions:
What I suggest is different: I have looked at your message boards and Ning sites (I don't know if you started any of Ning or moderated them). They're pretty good, but they're just places where your readers connect and idly discuss your ideas. The boards and Ning don't really have any call to action. They are not places for your troops to gather for an assignment, so to speak; for that he has mainly used his blog. I think you need an exclusive network that has some bar to get in (eg invite only).
This could be a group reserved for people who have really used and implemented their ideas to create extreme and unconventional lifestyles.

If you want to get a job in less than 3 months, this is the fastest way. (Unless you are incredibly talented)

1. Do something crazy to get attention.

2. Introduce reporters
Not everyone is Cammi Pham and loves to do crazy things. I am a rebel. Another way to get media coverage is by promoting. Make a list of journalists who write on the subject you want to be an expert on and come up with ideas. Join Help a Reporter Out to find opportunities.

Long Term: Build a Brand
In my experience, advertising doesn't always work and dies easily. Maybe she'd change her mind if she were a PR girl. Relationship building and content marketing are my options.

The worst part of the process is the application: its automaton, painful and usually lacking in any human component.

Our goal is to simplify the application process, so job seekers can focus on the most difficult and most important parts of the job process - evaluating a potential employer and finding a good place where they feel good.

The main difference between us and a job board, is that with a job board, you painstakingly search / research / apply (and repeat), and hope that the listing you just applied to wasn't stale / an advertisement / a recruiter. (guess what, you probably won't hear back anyway, but you don't know that).

With Robot Recruit, you upload your resume and set some preferences, and our systems match and apply you to a bunch of companies directly; hiring managers personally review your resume and invite you to interview. They are already looking for you, we just help them find you.

We are trying to reduce 'applying' to 2 simple steps:

1. Sign up
2. Accept Interviews from companies

In my mind, a job board is a job board no matter how many buzzwords you dress it in -- i.e. add tons of filters, make it a 'social', 'local', or 'mobile' -- you still are stuck with a bunch of listings that you have to sift through.

The background story is that I was looking for a job and very quickly got frustrated with the job sites that exist -- (monster, dice, indeed, etc) -- the main problem I found was that I was spending an exorbitant amount of time in the search, research, apply loop -- and not enough time in front of real people. I wanted to be focusing on better things, like whether or not I would fit into this company, whether the people were smart and I was going to enjoy working there, or if I was going to learn a lot and work on awesome projects. Instead, I was unknowingly blasting my resume into a black hole of stale listings and recruiters who were going to try to ransom me off to companies.

Another thing Careerleaf does now is allows you to build out a recruiter-friendly profile. I personally have found it to be helpful to have a presence online (and let recruiters contact me). It's nice when good, relevant, opportunities come to you. Obviously, the barrier to entry for using something like Careerleaf is lower than the option of designing and maintaining your own website.

Linked in is very superior and powerful compared to Naukri. For experienced candidates (I mean at least 8+ years) looking for a switch between intermediate and higher levels… trust me “Naukri.com http: // Naukri .com” is a total waste.
