What is the salary of a chief controller of the Indian railways after 20 years of service?

The main controller in railways is the Group C senior supervisor position on the PB 2 scale Rs 9300 - 34800 and Grade Pay 4200. They are from the Traffic and Operations Department assigned with the management of passenger train and freight train traffic. A departmental promotion chief controller can become an assistant traffic manager to the group B officer.

My dad is working in railroads and this answer is based on my view of his government life and my software life (CTS), no offense.

No, never lose this job, man, government job sucks if you move out of an IT company. If you opt for Railway Job, prepare to face the following, just a comparison of two:

PEOPLE Railways: You will feel like you traveled back in time to the 80s, the people around you will be middle-aged or older people, in case a teenage girl joins you, you will see her grow up, get engaged, get married, have children, have grandchildren and die, without new faces.

Like all the surrounded elders, they will be talking about television series that you have no idea which channel is broadcast, they will not be updated with any kind of technological material, they will gossip, they will compare, they will speak on your back, no. nonsense, you will finally be one of them. WOW! .

>> It will have mostly young people that you will deal with, you can connect in all ways and the daily office is full of colors (girls), yes, they are the ones that will make our day better, you will get friends your age to connect things better.

Housing: Railways: You can stay at Railway Quaters, but trust me man it sucks, there will be no continuous electricity or water, there will be no proper roads, there will be no security, no one cares if something broke in your house and you can't even install inverters Also, you will feel haunted, you will have to build a house or rent a flat. GREAT ! .

The picture above is Quaters Railway in Mumbai.

>>> In IT with better salary you can at least rent a decent apartment with all the basic amenities in the place where you want to live.

Responsibility: Railways: Nobody does their job, you can't question them, right? then they will take a leave of absence for weeks and you will have to take on their workload. In the worst case, these people will form a Union and speak out against you. This makes you question your decision, and if higher authorities deem you worthy, they will throw all your work at you without any pay or recognition. I still remember my dad used to get frustrated doing other people's work, he would collect files to fill out at home on weekends. AMAZING ! .

>>> IT: If the task is assigned to someone, he / she has to do whatever, everyone feels the responsibility here, if you are not, then you are not fit for it, others will easily replace you.

Work culture: Railways - there is no such challenging task, there is no such interesting job, you do the routine and life will be boring after one or two years, you literally do not need to use your brain, there will be no free time, no air conditioning , no games. area at work, no walking track or gym, all you have is a bunch of older people around you. Also, as a stationmaster, you will be placed at any remote station anywhere in India where you will only be there alone and even for 2am nonstop freight train crossing you need to be awake with no excuses and shake the flag, DAMN! .

>>> IT: As a developer, in these 8 years I learned many things, I changed many tools and platforms, I still need more for my brain, this keeps me running day by day, if I don't like the project, I will change it, If I don't I like the company, I change it, I walk 40 minutes a day around the office, I use GYM occasionally, when I finish my job I just leave and I don't need to ask for permission.

Healthcare: Hospital facilities are a big no, in my 21 years of life under my father's shadow we never used the railway hospital, no doctor is there to treat him, once my friend (10 years old) fell and He broke his face, we took him to the railway hospital and they put stitches on him without anesthesia or adequate medicine, he felt that more pain than the real wound, they will treat you worse. AMAZING !

>>> IT: You will get a medical insurance from 2 to 10 L depending on your position. There is a cashless insurance system.

Pay scale: railways you can get a decent salary, with that you can run a small family, take your child to free rail school, free rail hospital service (no one goes there) but if you want to take a step forward in life, like buying a car, traveling abroad, big house, education for children in reputed schools, then you have to fight. How are most government job pensions in question now? so why do you need to change. MARVELOUS!

IT: With 12 LPA, you can rent a decent flat or buy one with EMI, you can provide a good education for the kids, at least you can afford a hatchback car and go on a trip per year. If you have opportunities where the sky is the limit, you can save more than one Lakh each month. When I came back from 2 years of being on the site, I had more money than my dad's time saver (no bragging just for information). My current salary (exp. 8 years) in India is more than my father's salary (exp. 24 years). I could save more than my father's 30-year total savings in 3 years of Onsite.

Politics: The big abandonment for the government office is internal politics, the person who does not deserve will be our boss and he will do nasty things and we have to beat him all day. Even if you like it or not, you have to live with those kinds of people your whole life. F ** K!

The IT industry has politics too, but I don't have to lean towards my manager. If I don't like him, I don't have to act like his friend, I can only take care of work. In the worst case, if it doesn't work, I can complain or change companies at any time.

Global Exposure: If you work for railways, you can define your life from today until you retire, that's how routine it is, where you will be until death, no cool stuff like on-site or at least business trips. CERTAIN !

>>> IT: Life is full of surprises, with 8 years of experience I have worked in 6 different offices, 4 in India, 1 in the UK and 1 in the USA. You will have the opportunity to explore new countries, interact with different races. You can tour different places, live life and give a better lifestyle to your wife and children.During my trip to the place, I experienced high class lifestyle, I drove luxurious cars through rented Star hotels, I visited many states in USA money, not sure where I'll be in 5 years, that's how unpredictable life is!

The image below may be from Google, it may seem like a lot, but I had a similar experience on my US tours, it was absolutely fabulous!

Job Security: Railways I can say you have job security, but for the job you don't need. NAH!

IT, I accept that we do not have that much job security, but if you are smart, you will get a new job very quickly.

The important thing is that once you have lived IT lifestyle all these years, you cannot switch to government working life, after a while you will regret it, if you are married it makes life worse as you cannot spend much in your family. used to do when working in software.

Some people are happy with government jobs, others are happy with software jobs, you finally need to hear what your heart says, where you feel fulfilled.

!!! Before changing, think about why our Indian captain MS DHONI quit his railway job, follow your dreams!

Let me explain about alp and technical.

Both are one of the most sought after jobs among young applicants.

Crazy pilot

Being a locomotive pilot is one of the most challenging jobs, requiring both mental and physical well-being. You need to focus for 8 to 9 hours straight for this.
Generally, Loco Pilots erase ITI on Electric and appear as a test. Later, when clearing it, they are appointed assistant locomotive pilots. After that they run freight trains and then passenger trains for a decent 6-7 years. Transporting an Express / Mail requires at least 10 odd years of experience on it. Those who run premium trains like Rajdhani, Duronto, Shatabdi, etc. are the most experienced.

The salaries of the employees are calculated based on the salary scale, as you know, and depending on the seniority, DA that the government announces from time to time, the duty station (house rental subsidy, transportation subsidy) . But for starters, you will only be listed as an assistant locomotive pilot on the freight train. Based on the 7th Pay commission, you can get an approximate salary of around 26,000.00 to start.

The basis for this is,
1. Pay Scale: Rs. 5200 - 20200
2. Degree Payment: Rs. 1900

Basic payment 19,900+ HRA + DA + TA + DA in TA + current allowance + others

After all allowances and deductions, salary on hand will be 26,000+

I can give you the answer as my father is an Indian railway guard for the last 20 years and now he is a Rajdhani or Express train guard.

After all these years, he is now drawing something for $ 125,000 or a little more, but it takes a lot of work to be a Guard on the railroads.

Previously he used to be a freight guard and it is the most difficult time for the guard's life because the train could stop for a long time anywhere to pass other passenger trains and he did not know when he would get home.

There is also no good guard break on the freight train compared to Express.

After this, during that period, if a train stops in the middle of the jungle at midnight and there is no person near you, then you might feel fear in that position.

The goods protection period is something 7 years after life becomes much easier, but again your train could be at any time in 24-hour format, so you will have to always be ready for your duty.

I remember about 3 years ago when my father was going to the train station to work around 1 in the morning, he slipped on his bike and got injured and came home to change into his uniform. We told him that he must cancel his job today but he said that he cannot because in that short time no other guard came to replace him for that time and without a guard train he would not be able to leave the station so he must understand that the challenge and responsibilities in that job.

This is my first answer on Quora. I apologize for my mistakes in English if I have any.

Thanks …

You will also receive TA (Transportation Allowance) depending on the station of posting, either Rs 1800+ DA OR Rs 3600+ DA.

HRA and TA of different categories of cities are

A = 24% and Rs 3600+ DA applicable

B = 16% and Rs 1800 + applicable DA

C = 8% and Rs 1800 + applicable DA

Now gross pay in Call A city

  1. Rs 35400+ DA @ 12% (4248) = Rs 39648
  2. TA Rs 3600 + DA @ 12% (432) = Rs 4032
  3. HRA = Rs 8496
  4. The total gross pay is 1 + 2 + 3 = Rs 52,186
  5. You will receive a night service allowance based on your base salary.

It will surely be promoted up to Grade Pay of Rs 5400 in its full lifetime through MACP (Modified Assured Carrier Progression).

You can also become an officer of Indian Railways through a departmental exam after working on GP Rs 4200 for three years. For your clear understanding, I upload a photo of the CPC scale 7.

3.TTI-9300-34800-4200
4.CTI-9300-34800-4600

These are the scales under which its base is determined. For example, a guy who just posted as TE will roll a basic of 5200 + 1900 = 7100 plus DA, HRA, and other allowances that might be allowed. Currently, the DA is 113% and the HRA changes from place to place. People who work in A-1 cities would get a 30% HRA, while a guy who works in cities would get a 10% HRA.

Taking everything into account, a TE published in Mumbai CST will charge a minimum salary of 7100 + 8023 (113% DA) +2130 (HRA) - PF (8.25%) - Contributory Pension-Professional Tax-CGIS which roughly translates into 14k

• HRA 16% of basic salary… Rs. 7184.

• Transport Allowance…… Rs. 1936.

• Running Allowance…… Rs. 15000. approx. (6000 kms × 2.5 / km).

• Night Duty Allowance… ... Rs 2000.

Add up all these Rs. 74143 / -

Deduction: —10% of (Basic Pay + DA) = (4490 + 313) = Rs. 4803. against New Pension Scheme.

Net Salary on Hand: - • Rs. 69340 / -

Note: - The main factor of increased salary is RUNNING ALLOWANCE, the more you run, more you get.

A more senior Driver with a length of Service of about 33–35 years will get approx 1.2 or 1.3 Lac per month at present. With seniority BASIC PAY increases and all other Allowance are linked to Basic Pay, hence they increase. Therefore net pay will automatically increase.

And definitely.. You will be getting much higher salary as a CC than an SSE.
