What is the most appropriate field for a biology student in INDIA?

What is the most appropriate field for a biology student in INDIA?

First of all, I don't understand the word "appropriate" in this context. It is always appropriate to take any field of biology if you are interested. Each field has a large amount of area that has yet to be discovered. Each course is fun in its own way. Different people find different fields interesting.

A responsible person would love immunology.

An active person would love ecology and evolutionary biology.

A lazy but nerdy would like computational biology.

A foreman would like neurology.

There are many fields that can be adapted to all types of biology-loving population.

If you wanted to say, "win a lot of shit

If you meant "make a lot of money" by saying "appropriate" then it is not possible in India with biology. I'm not saying you lead an uncomfortable life. Those "crore packages" from IITans are not possible.

But biology promises a life driven by curiosity, fulfilling, and sometimes frustrating (which is fun too).

Molecular
biology Human molecular genetics
Biophysics

These are very advanced topics and the best field. There are many opportunities. And beyond that, there are many scholarships that will help you earn a PhD. Studying interdisciplinary subjects will help you establish yourself, as they are more funded by the government.

The following can help:

A. Become a doctor

B. Become a microbiologist

C. Become something with agriculture: there is decent reach there too

D. Become something in a pharmaceutical context, not a pharmacy per se, it can be clinical / biostatistical research, etc.

Good luck :)!

There are actually hundreds of options available to 12th science stream students. But without proper knowledge and guidance on the right option, it becomes difficult and confusing for both students and their parents to select the right option for a brilliant career. For those who have a keen interest in Medicine they can opt for courses: MBBS or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Those who wish to have a career in biology will surely agree that this is the best career option. My friend, that is totally up to you! I know you probably wrote this question in the hope that someone will tell you what to do and follow blindly. I know that sometimes I can be like this.

However, I will not do that. Maybe I can help you point the way with some tips.

  1. Most microbiologists I know agree that a bachelor's degree in microbiology is good, but that if you want to do more than just be a lab technician, then you should go to graduate school or, if you want to become a doctor / doctor ID, I HAVE to go to medical school.

  2. Perhaps make a list of the topics that you liked best in your forays into microbiology. Microbiology is an ever-growing field, and if a particular topic caught your attention, I guarantee that you can find researchers who are interested in receiving help in that field.
  3. Look beyond microbiology. For me, microbiology is my passion and it is something I want to continue with. However, you can also explore alternative career paths! One of my microbiology professors got his bachelor's degree in microbiology and then came across an entomology lab, where they were studying the symbiosis between an insect and the microbes in its gut. He ended up with a master's degree in entomology, if memory serves me well.
  4. Lastly, don't forget about the ways of education and writing! Obviously, you could train to enter the world of teaching, but you could also hone your writing skills and become a writer, detailing microbial sciences, serving as a correspondent between researchers and media, etc.

Keep your mind open and your heart light! You will find the right way for you!

Best of luck!

I have a slight inclination towards physiology, but I'm not sure. Not all students who choose the medical stream as a career option after the 12th pcb stream wish to become a doctor or dentist. In Indian society, it is an automatically assumed scenario. If a child opts for the 12th scientific stream (PCB), society begins to believe and see them as future doctors. Due to this false impression, in most cases, students are forced to take the medical entrance exams even if they do not want to. Sometimes, it is misleading as the students themselves are also beginning to believe that they should become doctors or dentists. Lack of career guidance results in disasters, as by the time students realize they are running after the crowd, they have already wasted a good deal of time.

Here, I am changing the focus from MBBS and BDS to "OTHER CAREER OPTIONS in LIFE SCIENCES" and listing some of the possible career options for 12th Science Stream students who like to study life sciences but do not wish to convert in doctors.

Students with Biology, Chemistry and Physics in 10 + 2 can choose a career in Life Sciences. If you choose a career in Life Sciences, some of the courses that may be considered for graduation are:

1. Undergraduate courses (B. Sc.) In basic subjects of Life Sciences, which include specialization in Zoology, Botany, Geology, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Genetics or Page in b.scGeneral.
2. Bachelor of Applied Sciences Courses: Biotechnology, Forensic Sciences and Criminology, Bioinformatics
3. Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharma)

5. Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences: Agricultural Meteorology, Agronomy
6. Bachelor of Science in Food Technology
7. Bachelor of Science in Forest and Wood Technology
8. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Fisheries and Fisheries
9. Bachelor of Physiotherapy

If you are good with keeping records go for Accounts or Stats or administration. If you are good with logic and have patience go for Law. If you are good at memorizing and love nature and are caring go for medical. If you are good with people and are quick with decisions, go for Management. Microbiology is a field that requires a lot of perseverance, patience and your time. If you are willing to commit to this field whole-heartedly, then only you can expect to land a decent job with a handsome salary (but don’t even think about a high paying job just after you finish your college. You’ll have to struggle at first, there’s no doubt in it). Also, getting just a graduation degree won’t help you achieve your dream of a great career. A post graduation degree (with an excellent and intriguing research project) from a good college/university is the next step. I agree that marks don’t really matter as you grow in any field BUT you need to have a strong grasp over your subject (which will automatically help you to gain marks) if you want your employers to hire you. And if you are passionate enough for your subject, a doctorate and post doctorate degrees can do wonders for your career.

Now coming to your question, if and only if you are ready to work hard, you can have a great career in microbiology. You may pursue your career in any one of the following branches:

  • Research- Take up a government funded project and work on it to find solutions to upcoming problems. Thanks to the ever growing technological advancements, microorganisms are convenient partners in the laboratory. However, your day will start in the lab and end in the lab, forget about your other hobbies.
  • Academics- If you feel that you are capable enough to teach, you can go for academics and start a job as an Assistant Professor. But you’ll have to concentrate on projects simultaneously and involve your students in them if you want promotions.
  • Industry- If you are not interested in neither of above fields, you can anytime apply for industry and gain knowledge about how microorganism based industries are run. Though some industries will offer you a 9–5 job, others may have flexible timings. In industry itself, you’ll get various options: production, quality control/ product testing, HR, research regarding improvement of products etc.
  • Entrepreneurship- You can always brainstorm and think about various ways in which you can produce microbe based products and launch them in the market to make profits. But this will require strong industry contacts and business tactics along with financial support.
  • Laboratories- You may also make a career in the laboratories of the hospitals and help the doctors to diagnose and hence treat the pathogenic diseases.

Choose wisely. A life. Get up and shine. Good luck!
