I work as a robotic process automation developer and most of the automated tasks are rule-based. Robots are good for rule-based administrative tasks, for example, to automate an IM report because they are repetitive and the results are predictable. Software bots tend to crash when a scenario is encountered that was not coded. Your question does not say if you also mean physical robots. Compared to the software bot, physical robots are available in homes and industries.

I was reading this book (The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies, Erik Brynjolfsson, Andrew McAfee, eBook - Amazon.com), which I find quite fascinating. The level of automation done in the last 10 years is implausible compared to what we think or imagine could be automated. What I was able to infer from the book, Steam Power (1765-1776) formed the first age of machines that paved the way for the Industrial Revolution. Steam engines already existed, but wattage settings in those years improved efficiency by more than three times. The authors thought they had seen it all, but what happened in the summer of 2012, Google was testing its Chauffeur project, a driverless car and practically what surprised the authors was the way the car maneuvered through traffic and close to cars. With automation, never say never, that's my advice.

One thing that strikes me as remarkable is that jobs that require CUSTOMER ORIENTATION would be very difficult to automate and possibly never be replaced by automation.   • Contractor customer reviews. There could be some kind of open websites where clients will give reviews and ratings of the work done by a contractor.
  • There are no technology parks for software. There are no large parks that contain multiple office buildings with air conditioning, cleaning services, security, cafeterias, etc. Contractors will work from their homes using high speed internet.
  • Laptops with pre-installed software will not be distributed. The contractor will use their personal laptops to connect to a customer-provided virtual machine (VM). We have recently seen a huge increase in the sharing economy; Not only can you stay at someone else's house through Airbnb, but you can also sail someone else's boat through a sailo, fly someone else's private plane on an open plane, and go snowboarding with someone else's table via a spinlister.

This is only the first wave. Major players like Google, Apple and Uber are developing automotive technology so that in five years, instead of driving to the office in a car you own, you drive to work in a car that you ordered on your cell phone that morning.
