Now you might be wondering why I, a marketing consultant, write about finding your dream job. Well, oddly enough, it's because my radical idea for landing your dream job has to do with marketing. More specifically, content marketing.

Positioning yourself as a content expert, especially when you're looking for a job, sends a message that you "get it." Let him eat, sleep and breathe the industry in which his work resides. Establishing this experience makes you more valuable to an organization, as it generally means that you stay current, that you are engaged, and that the industry is important to you.

We will start our journey by getting you your own website. If you already have one, you can skip step n. ° 1. If not, a website must be created.

Why? Well, we are going to need a place to host all the content that you are going to share to help you position it as a content expert in your field. It's not just about blogging, as you'll see, it's about being highly strategic and going after exactly what you want (wait until you read the cool way you're going to achieve this!)

1. Get a domain name and website

The first thing you are going to do is register your dot com name. You can do this quite inexpensively at Dreamhost or your preferred registrar.

Once you have your domain name registered, associate it with your account in cPanel and install WordPress using the one-click installation process. The next thing you want to do is choose a theme for your site. This is essentially the design aspect of the website and it will make everything that much more visually appealing.

You have two options here:

  • Paid / Premium Themes: ThemeForest, StudioPress, Templatic
  • Free themes

Premium themes are better supported, (often) better designed, and (generally) compatible with the latest version of WordPress. Free themes are a good option if you want to keep your costs low, but keep in mind that some plugins and other WordPress features may not work as well with less compatible themes.

Depending on your budget, you can choose the option that best suits your needs. My recommendation is to start simple and build on it over time. You can always apply a new theme in the future if you decide that the one you chose no longer suits.

2. Plan the content of your frame

Once you've installed WordPress, spend a little time thinking about the content you want to include. This is not the regular and ongoing blog post style content. We want to think about the content of the frame. These are the pieces that make up the site and for the most part they will not change. Your framework could include:

  • Your resume
  • An information page with a headshot and biography.
  • Your portfolio pieces
  • Live interactive demos of your work (if applicable)

3. Become a highly targeted and sought-after content expert

First it was my rationality, then my libido, then my appetite, and finally my sanity was being taxed like IRS taxes on the rich and famous.

Obviously I lost my dream job as my dear dad and the witch lady got full custody of the children.

For example: when I was at Frito Lay many years ago, I finally hated the job (entry level manager). It was very cyclical (I wanted something less routine) and I had to deal with basic workers (not a bad thing, but there were some who threatened to unionize every time we tried to improve operations to make it safer and safer). effective working environment). But what I didn't know was that during the period of time I was there, I was exposing myself to the entire gamut of manufacturing (from raw materials to finished products going to the shelves and operations to make all of that happen). Dream job: does it really exist? You will find that once you get your "dream" job, there will be things that you will not like. In one of my dream jobs, I traveled a lot when my kids were little, but traveling is something I miss now. Some of my co-workers were very career oriented, so it created a very competitive environment. I had great co-workers, but the team often changed based on the commitment we were working on (but I made some lifelong friends and some amazing memories).

Now I am a director, but some of my colleagues in that group (with whom I entered consulting) are vice presidents and at least one is president of a software company. I could have become vice president somewhere at least 3 times, but I resisted because I didn't think it would fit well with what I wanted to do at work or I didn't like the culture of a company.

You have to wonder if your dream job is about the job (and the impact you're having) or getting to a certain place in your career. If you want to get to a certain point in your career, it takes work and perseverance. If it's a degree or salary, you'll find that it may be easier to obtain, but less rewarding once you get there.

You need to define what your dream job is for yourself and start putting into practice what you need to do to land that dream job. One of those things must be to excel at what you are doing now, otherwise you set a pattern of not being among the best at what you do (not just at the job, but the candidate you will become for the job. Of your dreams).

The only problem is that many of the factors essential to find your dream job are unknown to you until you are actually working in the position. My opinion on this is to focus on the first set, searching specially for a good salary and job location. Job descriptions are often misleading, so you should try to guess in the interview what is the truth behind the offer and what kind of position they advertise.

After you take the job it is very important to keep a positive attitude towards the second set of characteristics. I think it is more about yourself adapting to the work environment rather than a dream-like workplace appearing in front of you (which is probably an utopia to begin with... there are always issues at work that could be improved and you will not like).

My current job is a adminstrator on duty for a major government hospital. My dream job is to one day become a Associate director or Director of a hospital. I knew for a while what I wanted to do but I didn't know how to get there. I was orginally a nursing major in school when I realized during my junior year I hated nursing. I changed my major to healthcare managment and I havent looked back since . For the most part, its extremely hard and political to become a associate director or director of a hospital. However, I think I'm making the right steps to get there. Making connections, obtaining certifications, moving into the right positions. I have been promoted 4 times in a matter of 3 years working within the organization. So compared to others I think now I'm at 30% chance of getting there now but I'll let you know in probably 10 more years.

I got a college education but I was never really interested in critical thinking and “skilled professional” jobs because that takes a lot of work and I rather not put in that amount of energy to balance work and family. Life is already stressful and don’t want to work a challenging job and have my own wife and kids. My life purpose is to take care of my handicapped brother after my aged parents pass away and help my parents while alive. Will be 21 years old till the day I die and go to the tunnel and into the light .
