What are the things to say in each interview?

You should make it clear that you did your research on the company without being too intrusive about it.

What I like to do, before every job interview, is visit the employer's website. I go through each page and take notes about the company.

I also review the Glassdoor Job Search | Find the job that fits your life page and read reviews from current and former employees. I take notes on anything positive and negative.

I also look at the Linkedin page for the people I'm interviewing, to understand their backgrounds without being creepy. Example: "I realize

Example: "I noticed you were promoted from associate to manager after 2 years, do you think it may have been too soon?" In my experience, asking questions like this is scary rather than someone investigating.

Every interview always has the following question: "Why are you interested in working here?"

This is a bad answer because it is very generic and can literally be said about any company.

  1. It is a great company and I am passionate about the product.

This is an amazing answer because it is specific and shows research.

2. At first I didn't know what your company was doing, so I checked your website to find out about the products and services you offer. Then I stopped by Glassdoor to see what your current and former employees are saying about your company. People seem to be very happy here. They talk about the culture, benefits, and complexity of the different projects they get to work on. One part that stood out in particular was its follow-up program, which allows interested employees to see what employees in this other department are doing to see if that is something that might be of interest.

Which answer sounds more impressive? What person do you think will be hired? The generic answer or the one that shows you did your homework?

What words should you be sure to say during an interview?

I'm not interested in questions like this, because he seems to want a list: "The seven words you should never say in interviews," and the lists are unconvincing.

They are not words, they are specific words in specific sequences. They are the ideas and the contexts in which you want them to be associated with you.

Then say these words:

  • Yes, I am qualified for the job and performed these tasks with excellent results in my last position.
    • Can't you say this? Best alternative: I have experience with similar tasks and learn quickly, as exemplified in this relevant short report.

  • I'm sure my qualifications should put me on top of your approved compensation for this position.
    • Can't you say this? Best alternative: I feel like I am a good fit for the position, can you share with me what you think is an appropriate ballpark figure, in light of my qualifications?

Other variations on these concepts are good too, but really, these are the key parts that most people need help with.
