What are the job opportunities for civil engineers in India?

Civil engineering has quite a beautiful scope in India. But remember, you will have to be patient. And I can explain why .. !!

Civil engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with people, the civilization of a country, its basic needs and facilities. So as long as there are humans and as long as we have natural phenomena like earthquakes and tornadoes, civil engineers will be required.

Just take an example from Mr. Sharma's routine life. You wake up in the morning brush your teeth, take a shower, have breakfast, go to the office, work there, have lunch, go back to work, come home,

You wake up in the morning brush your teeth, take a shower, have breakfast, go to the office, work there, have lunch, go back to work, come home, have fun with the family, have lunch, watch TV, and then go to bed.

Now, in the example above, he wants water for his morning activities, it has been indicated that if people do not get the water supply in the morning, it is disturbed all day. You need public transportation or roads to travel anywhere every day. Your children should have a school nearby. You need electricity generated by hydroelectric, nuclear, thermal, solar or wind power. To produce that electricity we need giant or small-scale structures, to transmit that electricity we need poles located at a certain distance. It should have food to eat, so we need good agricultural and irrigation systems. To have better irrigation we must have channels and a good water supply. To get rid of your waste, you should have a better sewer system. And so on..

As you can see, most of the task, directly or indirectly, requires civil engineering.

India is a developing country, there are still many places where people are not getting good quality water to drink, they do not have electricity, they do not have safer houses (Nepal earthquake), people need roads to travel, megacities need better transportation solutions, people need a better standard of living.

Now tell me, how much more reach are you looking for?

What we have to do is get some innovative ideas, once these innovative and profitable ideas start to grow, there is no way to stop.

Now, why doesn't anyone in civil engineering get a job easily? How many times did we see the interaction of the layman with civil engineering? Well, every moment. If you have just graduated from a bachelor's or master's degree, you are still in a stage of accepting theories and not practicality and the importance of safety. And if you start looking for some salary right away, well, only a few lucky people can get that job, because some company may require immediate hire or they feel the candidate is really impressive.

I will give you my example. I had a chat with my teacher and told him that I am targeting company "X" and that I can get it or not. He said, what experience do you have in the field of structural engineering? I said that I did these projects and that I can use these programs. But he asked me, if they tell you to build a small house for one family, will you do it and take responsibility for their lives? I said, well, I'm not ready for that. What I did was look for work on my own and what salary did I ask for? "ZERO". I went to a structural engineering company in my city and did not give any references. I told the structural engineer who owns the company that I want to do this job and I don't want any salary. He took my interview for 15 minutes and told me to come the next day. There I worked between my master's degrees and my singles.

Don't run after money (considering you have a stable family, if not then talk to me, we can find some ways) instead, look for some experience, even if it's free or only covers your experience with food or comfortably. Take a chance, learn as much as you can, because even after going through whatever you have today, you will come across something new tomorrow.

Civil engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering. Although there are many opportunities in India, their pay packages cannot be compared to the best computer science graduates working at google, facebook, etc.

So, several options available are: -

1) Private construction companies such as L&T Construction, Shapoorji Pallonji, Hindustan Construction, etc. They also mostly prefer top-tier institutes like NIT, BITS, state engineering universities, etc. for placements on campus.

But the flip side is that the working hours are extremely high if they put it on site. Also, most construction sites lack basic necessities.

But the flip side is that the working hours are extremely high if they put it on site. Also, most construction sites lack basic necessities and are located in remote areas. plus.

Small construction companies in India don't even pay on time.

2) Prepare for Indian engineering service performed by UPSC. Starting in 2021, the railway will recruit separately through its own examination. You can take classroom or correspondence training from institutes like made easy, IES master, Ace Hyderabad etc. Also NPTEL videos can be helpful.

3) Prepare for the GATE test. It gives you the option to do M-tech from IIT, MS from IISC bengalaru. In addition, you mainly need a master's degree if you want to work in design and consulting companies. Also a high rank in GATE can bring a job at PSU. But with the privatization of the for-profit Maharatna PSU as BPCL in the coming days, the choice may be murkier. After the 1991 LPG reforms, most USPs will sooner or later be privatized.

4) Prepare for the position of assistant executive engineer in state public service commission examinations. But they are carried out very irregularly. You can also award SSC JE.

5) Prepare for GRE and take admission for MS in foreign universities. One of my seniors did an MS in construction management in the US and he's working there now. But the job options after doing MS in civil engineering in foreign countries are even less compared to Computer Science and Computer Science.

6) Go to a master's degree and follow it with PHD if you want to become a professor in engineering universities.

7) Finally, you can become an entrepreneur by starting your own construction company. But the technical knowledge that we learn in our B.tech is not enough, it is better to have some experience in some companies and then start your own venture.
