What are the career options after a master's degree in women's studies from TISS?

The best way to further advance your women's studies is to gain two years of practical experience working with women's-based organizations and then do a PhD outside of India. Stay in touch with the NGO mailing list and recent events and work around the problem. Stay up-to-date with training and seminar on this topic. Develop the network. That is the most crucial.

The master's in women's studies provides you with a wealth of knowledge on gender issues that you can apply in your career, which can be in NGOs, think tanks, policy advocacy groups, and government departments. You can continue your studies by enrolling for a PhD.

They mainly focus on your DAF.

It is true that it is subjective for the interviewers, what you feel is correct may not be so for them.

Write the most genuine aspects about yourself.

The questions they asked me were:

1.You have written

"Yad yad acarati sresthas
tat tad evetaro janah
sa yat pramanam kurute
lokas tad anuvartate"

in your DAF, could you explain a bit more.

Answer: Actions performed by great men are emulated by commoners.

I believe in this philosophy, so I believe that after completing my education here at WS, my social action towards the empowerment of women will be emulated by those.

Answer: Actions performed by great men are emulated by commoners.

I believe in this philosophy, which is why I believe that after completing my education here at WS, my social action towards the empowerment of women will be emulated by those who may not be aware of the problems of women in society.

2.But they started questioning me on the other lines with the same slokha.

Don't you think it is discriminatory to think of someone as great and another as a commoner?

I tried to give practical reasons, without worrying about the political correctness of my arguments (which I think were against me).

I answered- I saw in movies and in the lives of some great people that you have to respect women and older people and try to help them when necessary. I tried to do it with the 2 old widows of my mohalla. Whenever I visit my place of origin. I go and ask them how they are, this has caused a change in my cousin's attitude, they have emulated my behavior (as my mother says).

They were still not convinced.

3. What is the condition of women in your village?

Answer: My village is located on the floodplains of the Mahananda River (a tributary of the Ganges River).

So it is destined for monsoon floods every year.

Per capita land tenure is much lower, men from the village go to towns and cities near and far to work in real estate, women go to work in agricultural fields and manage households with their daily wages. It is located in the headquarters block 12 km).

They live in extreme poverty, many of them have not yet benefited from Indira Awas, and it is possible that many of them never will be, since they are not sitting in their own land.

Although Jan Dhan has opened so many accounts but they are still unbanked. They live in the dialipidated house in Kutch, they are afraid to see a puckka of concrete offices of the bank (which is also 12 km away). They dare not speak to their banker (a man in a boots suit, a kind of person he hardly sees at home).

4.2ª Lady on the interview board.

Why do you want to join this course?

Answer: I have seen the problems women face through my real life experiences. I have seen them in my family and in my neighborhood, in my agricultural field in town, and in my corporate life at a leading IT company. Their problems have a unique similarity. it has a dominant gender dimension.

They suffer unequal wages at the village level, as they thought they were unable to perform on a par with men.

They suffer unequal opportunities at work in the middle of their career (around 30-40) due to pregnancy and childcare. Very few of them reach the top management level.

The problem of women is no different if they are on the street and face harassment or if they are at home where they face sexual violence within marriage or dowry atrocities, they are a danger because of their gender.

They face problems that are socially constructed over the ages. They are not as free as men in society. Your problems are assigned to their destiny in our belief system.

I think we need to re-examine the matter and investigate how and where we went wrong. I hope that in high school I would be in the right environment to learn from teachers and friends.

4. But how can you solve the problem you mentioned now?

Answer: Madam, I want to join the Indian civil service and I want to implement my learning and knowledge of the institution to help improve policy making by the government. I believe that in every political decision the gender dimension must be adequately addressed. Our nation can move toward better gender justice if we are sensitive to the issue of gender inequality. If I have the opportunity to study here, maybe I can fulfill that purpose.

5.3 th queen on the board.

Tell me about some of the government policies that have worked for women in your village.

Answer: The Food Safety Act has worked well in my town. There is a small pocket of Santhali inhabitants in our village. From my home I can watch the Santhali ladies take their baby to the Anganwadi center to receive vaccinations and other maternity rights (which are part of the food safety law).

5. Have you heard of POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Work)?

Answer: Yes, Mom, but I don't remember exactly. I can try?

Sure.

It is an act of parliament that regulates the safety of women in the workplace and the law requires the creation of a safety cell in the workplace.

6. What constitutes sexual violence at work under the law?

Answer:

Sexually color the language

Physical advance

Asking for sexual favors

etc.

7. Do it. Do you think this law has any positive effect?

Answer: yes

8. How (q8)?

Answer: Everyone fears the risk to their reputation and respect in the workplace. The body constituted through the law can summon the person to clarify, which can damage their reputation if the complaints are true, as well as has acted as a deterrent against sexual violence against women at work (check if there were any errors in this case). answer).

9. Tell us something about the structure and constitution of this body?

Answer: Sorry ma'am, I don't know.

Master in Glabalization and Work is one of the programs offered by the School of Management Studies. It is a super specialized program.

The most important thing to understand about this program is that it is not a management program. This program is aimed at those people who have some previous experience in working with unions, labor organizations, cooperative societies, etc.

The course takes you on a roller coaster ride into labor market information, the impact of the global world / globalization on work, especially in the informal sector, the changing dimensions of work today.

The course is based on a praxis model that includes both theoretical and field experiences. TISS is part of the Global Labor University network in association with the International Labor Organization.

If you don't have any prior experience in the areas mentioned above, try looking for programs at the school of social work or seek a master's degree in development studies.

It is more suitable for people with previous experience in those areas. If you join the course as more recent, you would be working in a labor organization or other NGO and you would be competing with students from other programs of the school of social work, development studies, etc.

“Ancient and Medieval Societies had inseminated the seeds of the deterioration of the conditions of Women by defending and proclaiming their Sacrosanct and by claiming" Sex "as a" Sacrosanct Dream. "

Master of Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary program. The central point of this program is to challenge the existing domain of knowledge, "language", stereotypes, and so on. in society who are responsible for the exclusion of women and their secondary status in all aspects of social, political and economic life.

The program is a combination of gender studies / courses, field experiences / internships. and research methodology.

The courses / subjects of this program are strongly inspired by the notions of Western feminism and feminists such as Simon De Beauvoir, Rosa Luxemburg, Shulmanith Firestone, etc. However, she also incorporates a large part of Indian feminism through courses like Women's Movement in India in the first semester of the study.

The intention of the program is to develop critical thinking among students who are able to adapt and become domiciled in the various mise en scène (environments) of professional advancement.

Once you pass out from the course, you will have ample opportunities to advance in fields such as research. Many European universities offer large scholarships / scholarships for research in this field (Erasmus Mundus is one such scholarship).

You can join various Women's Liberation movements in India like Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, various other women activists and their associations like Narmada Bachao Andolan are always welcoming by nature. Freelance writing is also a good option. There are many organizations (NGOs) that work on these issues and that are willing to absorb students from those fields.

These types of organizations do not pay well in the initial fight of their career. Your down payment package can range from $ 25,000 per month to $ 40,000 per month, but once you grow in the field, the future is bright.

Note: Joining social programs like Women's Studies or anything else does not mean that you have no right to support yourself. This is the common myth among people that if you want to land in that profession, the need to forget about money is the basic need, which is totally wrong in my opinion. You have every right to inquire about the package before embarking on a professional career.

Thanks

I graduated from TISS in 2011. The women's studies curriculum was then dominated by the feminist movement and theories. Most of the students continued their higher studies, mainly the doctorate. There was a close friend who was studying women and wanted to prepare for civil service. But instead he married. She was associated with the British High Commission in Delhi and now works with the Australian embassy in Delhi. Your profile has nothing to do with women's studies.

I have been observing HRM at TISS for the last year. They are always burdened by so much work, they don't have free time. Attend classes on Sundays too! Upon arriving on campus, the 100-acre campus is nowhere near the start of construction. It won't be ready for another 10 years. And the existing makeshift campuses lack basic facilities! The university charges fees for Internet use, and the Internet never works on campus. When you get to the faculty part, most of the professors are part-time. Although they are highly qualified. Imagine studying 10 subjects per week and the amount of pressure!
