What are some interesting or fun benefits of working for your company?

Gannett Co. provides an iPhone to all reporters and photographers and also pays the monthly bill. That is not bad at all.

Quora now has about 50 full-time employees. I am happy to work with a great group of people who make it fun for me to come to work every day. Some of the additional fun things we're doing (including the ones Edmond Lau lists below) are:

  • Weekly ping pong classes. We have a professional player who comes in and teaches those who want to learn how to play. We now include ping pong as one of the activities during our hacking weeks. Sometimes it is really about playing, other times balls or rackets are used to do some kind of race.

  • Holiday tax. Now that there are many of us on Quora, there is always someone who returns from a business trip or vacation abroad. Now it is a tradition to bring something from wherever you come from. Riley actually brought some delicious BBQ rib slices from her hometown in Texas! Some of my favorite vacation taxes have been chocolates from so many countries, the latest being from Ecuador, macadamia nuts from Hawaii, castella zen from Japan, nuts from Greece, Turkish delight, etc.
  • This photo was taken after our 3 day Memorial Day weekend vacation. The loot includes voodoo donuts from Portland, cookies from New York, chocolate-covered cherries from Washington DC to represent the cherry blossom festival, spicy, illegally smuggled jerky and mochi balls legally transported from Taiwan.
  • Weekly massage. Two therapists come weekly and relieve sore muscles.
  • Ramen nights. A guy used to live in Japan and craves his ramen. So we try to go one night a week to one of the ramen places around Castro Street or up to Sunnyvale.
  • Women on Quora Brunch. We have just started this and we hope to continue it and make it a tradition. The first was hosted by our human resources manager.
  • Poker / card nights. Some types are expert poker players or 21-card counters. So sometimes we get together, buy $ 20, and play some games. When I get to be as good as these guys, it will be Vegas time!
  • Annual withdrawal of companies. We all had a great 3 days in Yosemite just hanging out and bonding with each other. We had hikes, beer pong, board games, bike rides, dragon rides, zip lining, etc. on our action packed schedule. We were also treated to a spa treatment of our choice after a full day of hiking.
  • Food, food, food. Quora feeds us breakfast (MWF) and daily lunch and dinner. I haven't had to shop for a while and have possibly gained a few more pounds since I started.
  • Several more events taking place during the summer of 2013, such as a Giants game, Bowling Night, 4th of July BBQ, Game Night, etc.
