In tribal societies, the taking of slaves in battle adds to the humiliation of the defeated tribe or village. Systematic rape and mutilation are used to emphasize the degradation of slaves.

So, let's get back to your question. Is working for a corporation like modern slavery? The answer is unequivocally NO. It can be quite unpleasant and very stressful, but at least you can go home, have friends, take vacations, go to the doctor, walk outside for some fresh air, have control over what happens to your own body, not worry. because. the next client will cut you off, strangle you, or your boss will try to hook you on heroin, cocaine, crack, or alcohol. One of my friends works for a large company (BPO) in his hometown. For every 15 days X 10 hours of continuous work, you are given 1 leave (that's correct), so a total of 2 to 3 licenses in a month and 3 to 4 hours overtime two or three times a week without no additional pay for overtime.
His total salary is approximately INR 9,500 with a pay cut for leave taken for legitimate medical reasons.
In total, he works 25-27 days in a month, 10-11 hours a day and earns just INR 9,500, which is roughly equivalent to Rs 380 per day and Rs 38 per hour (). So isn't this an example of modern slavery?

Many people cannot accept the idea that 9 or 5 jobs are a form of slavery because they immediately think of this when they hear that word….

We have a tendency to associate slavery with its most brutal, in its face, undeniable form: movable property slavery, where people are the physical property of another person. We do this because it is so obvious and clearly reprehensible.

We grew up in schools that only taught us about this form of slavery. We learned about the thousands of years that humans have been incarcerating others and forcing them to work on their behalf. In American History, we were taught that the nation finally came to its senses and succeeded in abolishing slavery after the civil war ... so no one had to call themselves a slave anymore! Right?!

… Unless, of course, you become a little more flexible with this understanding and realize that there are many forces in contemporary society that essentially enslave people. These forces are not directly perceptible - you cannot see iron chains linking a fast food employee to your record, but you can understand that they are there when you use your mind.

The chains are not there because the person works a specific eight-hour shift, or because they are stressed, or because that fast food chain is bad with its employees. They are there because the person is paid in the form of salary.

Wage labor, while hard to believe in modern society, is a form of slavery. It's nowhere near as horrible as Chattel slavery, obviously, but that doesn't just rule this idea out.

In fact, the idea that wage labor is a form of slavery was widely accepted before our time.

In ancient Rome, Cicero wrote that "whoever gives his work for money sells himself and places himself in the rank of slaves." Frederick Douglass, one of the most famous abolitionists, once said, after detailing his experience as an employee, that "wage slavery is only slightly less irritating and crushing in its effects than commercial slavery, and that this wage slavery must decrease with the other ”.

The reason so many thinkers came to this conclusion is because of the idea that renting to someone is a little different than selling to someone. Instead of producing, owning, and enjoying the fruits of your labor, you work for someone else who claims ownership of these things. The tenant dictates the salary, which is always less than it should be for the value of the work because the tenant needs to make a profit.

Furthermore, modern workplaces, if classified as a form of government, would be a dictatorship. Employees cede their autonomy to a hierarchical system that transmits instruction from top to bottom. Bosses tell the employee what to do, how to do it and extract metrics on their efficiency and productivity. If they fail, they can be canceled at any time.

Many people will say that since the employee voluntarily signed up for this contract, he is acting as a free agent. But what if he refuses to sign it? He (most of the public) still needs to find work to pay for his house, eat, buy nice things, etc. You would have to find another employer, which, at best, would offer a slightly higher salary or a good work culture. But you are still renting your job on their behalf.

Yes, I know I look like a guy who has just completed Marxism 101 and has a shocked look on how workers are oppressed, ect ... but I feel like this is such an obvious idea, that it was widely believed even before the writings of Marx, and that logically explains the nature of an employment relationship.

Eventually you get to the point where you are stuck. You have a lot to lose if you keep going. You make too much money, you have too many vacations, you would start over.

In the meantime, you have the right clothing for the position you occupy. So you have added clothing expenses. You can't drive the fifteen-year-old car you started with, so you have to buy a new car. Of course, it has to be appropriate for your position, so no more economy cars. That apartment you live in is simply not suitable for a person moving into the world, so you buy a house, in the right neighborhood, with more bedrooms and bathrooms than you will ever need. But you don't have time to clean, so you hire a cleaning person. He doesn't have time to mow his lawn, so he hires someone to mow it.

If you are married, children are probably the next step. But you don't have time for them either, so you hire someone to take care of them, at daycare and then at daycare after school. If you want some time off after working 50 to 60 hours a week, you pay a babysitter.

The best way to escape "wage slavery" is to recognize what it is and why it exists.

Most of us are convinced that the only way to survive in an economy is to get a job that pays a stipend, be it an hourly wage or a monthly wage. Having such a job gives us the illusion of security by establishing a steady stream of "income." With that steady stream of income, you can set a budget that also creates a sense of security and predictability.

There are two things that most people don't really recognize. One is that this security can be arbitrarily taken away from the worker, at any time the employer wishes. The second is that regardless of compensation, it is human nature to live a little beyond your means, establishing credit and buying things that the worker could not otherwise afford, paying for them in installments. It is this debt bondage that keeps most people in this routine of wage slavery.

So if you want to escape wage slavery, don't go into debt. If you already have debt, pay it off as soon as you can and then refuse to take on more debt, regardless of how much you may “need” whatever it is that you can't afford.

Once you are out of debt, you can be more flexible in your employment choices. For example, you can accept a pay cut to enter a field with more potential. You can live on less and acquire a trade that will pay more in the future than your current job. When you are not in debt, you have many more options than those who are in debt.

The happiest people I know are those who practice a trade or those who are successful in the field of sales. Tradesmen, painters, carpenters, electricians, they earn pretty good wages during a strong economy like the one we have now. They are also in high demand. If they see a better opportunity, they can seize it. Also, if the economy is not strong, they have a "skill" that can easily generate income for those who become self-employed. A painter, carpenter, or electrician can always find paid work. There is no better way to break free from wage slavery than to be able to find and earn your own income independently of a traditional "job". Self-employment in a business field offers that opportunity.

There are several areas where sales skills can be very rewarding. I know a number of real estate sellers who make an excellent living and do what they want to do. They enjoy their work and their efforts bring them good income. They are paid for their production (commission for a closed sale) and, in fact, they are the "best alternative" to being self-employed.

Think of it this way ... College is the last free time you have because once you start your first job, you are enslaved for the next 40 years in a 9 to 5 routine. No way out baby! There is no way out in the next 40 years! That is slavery!
  • The concept of money and having to pay to get things and having to work to get money is the root of all evil. Greed is built, a dog eats a dog backstabbing environment. Encourage dishonesty and do whatever it takes to get ahead. Encourage the idea that unless you turn into a shark, one will eat you. That my friends is slavery!
  • You lose your dignity and self-respect when you work for someone. Yes, you do it because many times your boss will treat you horribly. In what other life situation can someone say horrible things to you and treat you like shit? Not many other situations. It's a fact, you can't do anything but sit there and accept it because the system has enslaved you and you need a job… that's slavery!
  • The moment you are born into this world, you are a slave. In fact, the whole experience, from childhood to college completion, is primarily about preparing yourself to become a slave. When you are a child, they show you a toy. Do you want that toy? Guess what? They tell you that things cost money. So they tell you that you earn money working. Society has just instilled the idea that a) things cost money b) you will have to work to get money ... and to get a job you will have to go to school ... all in preparation for slavery!
  • Modern corporate companies are great at enslaving you. Google, for example, offers an experience that includes free food, capsules to sleep in place to take a break and thus continue to think of Google 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They want you to live on Google and create a work shop environment… that's slavery!

Listen, I'm an electrical engineer and I graduated with 3.75 gpa. He was full of eagerness to change the world. After landing a technical job, I realized that virtually ALL tech companies operate like sweatshops in America. You usually work 50 to 60 hours and get paid 40. When I realized how evil corporate greed was, I quit technology. The bottom line is that corporations don't give a shit about you, you're valuable until you produce and one day you get fired. In fact, you are expendable and disposable like pens. This is how they treat you! If you don't believe that, you're either too young to realize it or you're in denial.

Modern slavery exists, there is nothing you can do about it unless you do what Henry David Thoreau did and be self-sufficient somewhere and deny modern society, technology and its conveniences. That could be the key!
