The people I know who are also EE have the same drive and passion as me and they love what they do. We don't work so hard to get the EE degree just to get a job. For a good EE, getting the degree is just the starting point. We have a better foundation to start lifelong learning. I graduated in 1979. Think: I went through all the development of the technology business, I had to learn to program myself on an Apple II computer; the only classes we had at school were COBOL and FORTRAN, and all of our programming was on punch cards. That's enough for almost everyone to hate computers. Everyone from LASER, acoustics, hard drives, SSD memories, high resolution monitors, large flat screens, iPhones and the whole world of video and CAD and robots and drones and electric cars etc. - EVERYTHING has gone from research or lab ideas to reality since I graduated. If I didn't have the EE foundation, it would have taken me a lot to teach myself all these things. My original EE degree is totally worthless for most of what I learned in school BUT learning to seek knowledge and teach myself is priceless.

Today's world is changing many times faster than in my first 10 years. If you reflect on the things that lie ahead and those that you will need to learn and teach yourself for the next 30 to 40 years, you will understand why you must have the drive and passion to learn and teach yourself. It's definitely not a title for most people, that doesn't make EE better or worse than anyone else. Simply define who we are and if this describes you, go out of your way and join the rest of us. There are many things to create, problems to solve, and many more things to teach ourselves. :)
