Only the Consulting gives the best jobs. My friends and I also connect with job portals that help us find jobs related to our experience.

  5. Write as many certifications as you can in programming, database, cloud depending on your field
  6. Create a separate email account for job search like Zoho mail, Outlook or AOL instead of traditional email accounts like gmail / yahoo.
  7. Create an amazing resume with a single page or a maximum of two pages with LinkedIn, GitHub, stackoverflow and links to personal websites
  8. Get all your reference details, past experience letters, personal details on hand for quick processing during application / background check
  9. Clear history on credit reports and SSN
  10. Network as much as you can by attending techevents / meetups / job fairs through We are what we do | Meetup and Eventbrite, which are free most of the time
  11. Prefer locations like Silicon Valley (CA), New York, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Dallas which offer most of the opportunities.
  12. Make sure you have a decent laptop setup with a minimum of 8-12GB of RAM to get hands-on experience depending on the technology you choose. For DevOps and Hadoop, the minimum configuration of 12GB RAM is mandatory and for Java / .Net / QA ... etc.
  13. Explore some good domain knowledge in IT industry like Finance / Banking / Healthcare / Telecom / Retail
  14. Be tech savvy by following the latest updates / trends through tech articles. Good written / verbal communication skills make your chances brighter
  15. Learn emerging technologies like Blockchain, RPA, IoT, AI, AR / VR, data science, etc. to get better and better opportunities
  16. Have legal status with an adequate insurance plan

PS: You have a long time, that is, 3 years in OPT regardless of H1B. Don't waste your time going to consultancies and killing your ethics. Do the things mentioned above for the last semester of your Master's degree or your initial OPT. Use the CPT period for internships during the maximum period and get real-time experience, even if it is unpaid.

Attend as many interviews as possible and don't be disappointed by rejections. Rejections make you stronger and evaluate your mistakes. Get a job as quickly as possible at the end of the initial OPT period as you can volunteer / unpaid internships. Look for companies that can sponsor your H1B along with the offer.

        • - Work from home or pay for a super cheap office close to home, so you don't need to spend on car and gas
        • - Your customers are also close or find you only on the Web
        • - Your clients pay on time (ALL).
        • - You do not renew your computer equipment, software and the like from time to time; or bill a fee so high that 5% of your fee is enough to switch to the latest hardware and software each year.

    • There are definitely no problems with USCIS that way ... However, you don't have to sponsor your Green Card until you open a subsidiary and get a Type E visa. And being your own company, you can start working on the "etc." requirements, which most companies would not meet.

If you already have an H1 and you are transferring to them, then you can have an advantage in the negotiations

If you are just out of school and looking for someone to sponsor you H1, then have lower expectations and you will pay less than the competitive market salary. Regardless of the company, bogus experience is not advisable. Customers can easily solve this in 2016.
