That would depend on the job you expect.

Let me ask you, would an MBA get a job as a delivery person for Zomato or Swiggy? Most likely the answer is why not?

What do you hope is the right job for an MBA on a cruise ship? Unless you have hotel management experience, you would not be a hotel side employee i.e. room service, catering, cleaning, etc. If you have no experience in event management, you would not be employed as an event manager or entertainer.

In the same way, you need engineering licenses to work in the engine department and nautical licenses to be in the navigation department.

However, there are still jobs that employ unskilled workers, and if you're ready for that, you can be hired.

Okay, disclaimer first: I left the boats for good in 2005, so things may have changed a bit, but probably not that much.

But it is incessant. And the pay sucks, although the tips can be good. Some months I was earning the guaranteed minimum of € 1,000, others I was earning up to € 5,000.

Also, there is not much rest in their free hours. Enter the passenger areas, to have a drink or to have a drink at the buffet, and you have to be in uniform and with the best behavior.

Friendships and relationships are also very intense. I have made friends for life thanks to 6 month contracts. I met at least three men I would have married (I married one of them and we are very happy, thank you very much). You have a lot of fun, you pour your soul out to the people you've known for a few weeks and you know them, especially your cabin mates, inside and out, even though you actually have little in common.

You have to exercise a lot of self-control to save money. Some people do. A couple of my friends managed to save enough to buy an apartment in their house in Romania, and then to pay off their green cards, they have been living in the United States for the last ten years, with good jobs in Las Vegas, a boy , a dog, a nice car and a house. Personally I came home with a few thousand euros and a lot of shoes and DVDs. You spend money like water because you don't really need it. You know you have a place to sleep and as much food as you can eat for free, so you go out and buy clothes, or whatever. You go to restaurants several times a week, because the food on board starts to taste the same after a while, and because it would be a crime to be in Naples and NOT go for pizza, or not eating mezzes in Mykonos, or crab cakes. in Barbados.

So you may go home with less money than you expected, but you will come home with lots of great and not-so-good memories. And the experience will always be with you. There is always a small part of my heart that misses the life of the ship, that reflects, with a nostalgic smile, all those old photos of parties in the cabin, or camel rides to the pyramids, or of myself, all glamorous in clothes formal for the captain's cocktails. afternoons, and I wish I could do it all over again (but preferably without breaking my heart so much).
