Writing and creating content is a skill that develops gradually over time.

You can choose to specialize in niches that are not content-centric by nature and still be an amazing digital marketer.

I hope this helps! Health :)

Digital marketing is a great career option!

I have been in business for over 10 years and in that time I have worked my way through the ranks from a young and avid digital marketing account coordinator at one of Australia's leading advertising agencies to someone who now owns and He runs his own digital marketing boutique. agency earning well in the six figures (and hopefully 7 figures very soon).

It's a career where you don't need to have a college education, you just need to have a relentless desire to improve in what you do every day.

I was never someone academically talented in school. Not because I was stupid or because I didn't want to learn, but because the secondary school system bored me to tears. I did well enough to get into a good university, but I didn't excel in that environment either. I think some of this was due to my extreme dislike of conformity and the rest probably had to do with the fact that I had ADHD and couldn't focus on anything that I found disintegrated for more than 5 minutes.

Somehow I found my way to art school and loved it. I ended up getting a bachelor's degree in film and television, but after many years working in the industry and getting nowhere, I quickly got tired and once the financial crisis hit, well, I was sick of living in the hands of the government. outs ”and eat baked beans on toast.

As someone who was always straddling the creative and the analytical, I began looking for something that would appease both of my passions for artistic expression and numbers and science.

I started working as an account manager for a company that created digital catalogs (this is exactly what it sounds like). We took catalogs from major Australian retailers and digitized them. It might sound like shit now, but in 2010 it was cutting edge stuff and our rival company was making tens of millions of dollars a year.

While there, I formed a friendship with someone who would vastly change the path my life was on. I was working as a PPC administrator (or someone who managed any online payment method, including Google Ads and, at the time, Yahoo! Ads).

We went for coffee one day and I asked him about his job and what he did. He told me that he was primarily working on the Google Ads platform managing an expense of over AUD $ 60k per month.

He also told me that working in paid advertising combined copywriting, psychology, and numbers. He compared it to the stock market and reported investment placement (except stocks turned out to be keywords).

From that moment I was hooked.

While working at that company, I delved into learning about PPC and he taught me enough to get started. I also started my own SEO business in parallel (one that I would later sell for a considerable profit).

After leaving the company, I started working at Universal McCann (one of Australia's best advertising agencies) as a performance marketing coordinator.

I was lucky enough to work with who I considered the highest paid marketer in the business (well, in Australia at least). His name was Matt and he was only 21 at the time, but he was already a highly respected practitioner.

I learned everything I could from him and my knowledge increased tenfold. At Universal Mcann (or UM as she was affectionately known) she handled some of the largest budgets in Australia. Some with advertising spend millions per month!

Six months after starting there, Facebook ads started to gain popularity (this was in 2011 to set the scene) and I was appointed to become the agency's expert on both YouTube ads and Facebook ads.

Once again I hit the jackpot as I landed one on one with Facebook ad reps who at the time were more than happy to open the hood of the Facebook ad platform and tell me exactly what to do ( we had millions to spend and they wanted a slice.)

That's where I learned all about FB psychography and targeting and started earning my clients a ridiculous amount of money on an advertising platform that many of my teammates scoffed at (little did they know it would become the advertising giant that it is today!).

After leaving UM, I went to work at Orbitz / Expedia and then Microsoft (my dream job and the company that I once boasted to my high school classmates that I would one day work for). After Microsoft, I worked at a (then) little-known start-up called Airtasker, which with an extremely talented team of people we turned into one of Australia's success stories.

From there, I finally felt confident enough to run my own show and started a digital marketing agency and cofounded my own virtual education business with one of my close friends (who I curiously went to film school with .. . Full circle!)

Then I started teaching at one of Australia's best future skills schools in the area of "Growth Marketing". Where I taught for more than 2 years.

Finally, I take my advice (which I suppose is why you are reading this long, but hopefully "entertaining" answer).

  1. Don't waste your time in college if you want to get into digital marketing. Unless, of course, you are considering studying finance, statistics, computer science, or data science. A marketing degree from a university is, in most cases, useless in the digital realm. Universities are slowly integrating digital components into their curricula, but by the time they find their way, they will be immediately out of date again.
  2. Don't take those damn Guru courses. If you're thinking of taking one of those $ 1,000+ business or marketing courses from a guy who's yelling at you in a YouTube or Facebook ad, take your $ 1,000 and flush it down the toilet. It will be less painful and it will not fund the lifestyle of a scamming idiot.
  3. Now that we have the first two out of the way ... niche in an area of digital marketing. There are many from PPC, SEO, content marketing, and data analytics, to name a few. Pick one, get awesome and then, and only then, pick another aspect of Digital to duplicate. The highest paying niches are PPC / Paid Marketing and Analytics. SEO is also an extremely valuable skill.
  4. Read Search Engine Journal, Search Engine Land, and PPC Hero every day. Go and follow the Conversion XL blog and watch as many YouTube videos as you can in the niche you have chosen to dominate. Listen to podcasts and attend events.
  5. Get experience. It probably means working for free (sorry, there's no getting around this as we've all had to do it). And once you've found a place that gives you a real-world experience, find the best guy in the company and buy them coffee, lunch, dinner whatever it takes to spend some valuable time with them and literally take their knowledge. with both hands.
  6. When you're ready, take some advanced courses ... I would recommend Conversion XL and training from some highly regarded professionals who launch courses that are really hands-on and not "guru". At this level, you should avoid training from places like "DigitalMarketer com" as at this stage in your career they will only provide entry-level information (except for your copywriting course, which is pretty good).

Finally, I found a question that I can explain and guide the hobbyist so they don't waste money on any digital marketing course. I am a seasoned digital marketer so I can guide you well and will try to save your hard-earned penny.

Digital marketing institutes only teach you the basics. I think those resources are readily available on the internet and it will pay the institute. Now few will say the Institute offers tips and tricks that are hidden in online resources. Tricks no longer work in digital marketing. You have to develop it on your own. Your tricks will be unique to you, making you a popular digital marketer. Therefore, develop by working on it more and more. Understand yourself which trick is working and which ones are not.

Now moving on to another aspect. You have finished your digital course with the institute, now what's next. For any digital job, companies ask for experience, and for that you have to work as an intern. Sometimes they pay little and sometimes they pay nothing for it. After the internship, you start your career.

Here are some pro tips, follow them and I bet you will never regret it.

Assuming you are about to develop a career in digital marketing.

  1. Start learning the basics available on youtube. Keep in mind that you have to learn the basics, not tips. Thousands of digital marketers create videos to share tips to get views. Don't watch those videos. Watch video tutorials that explain concepts and how they work. (7 days)
  2. There are 3 main modules in digital marketing SEO (search engine optimization), SEM (search engine marketing), SMM (social media marketing). Take a topic, for example SEO. Start exploring the Internet. Learn the basics. Once you're done with the basics of a topic, start working on it. (30 days)
  3. Start reading blogs related to digital marketing that share knowledge. You will be able to develop strategies.
  4. Now look for any certification online at first.
  5. Start an internship with any good agency. They may not pay you. But in the long run, the brand tag is necessary. (6 months to 1 year).
  6. Now you have learned a lot, you practically implemented it in an internship. I learned new things from companies. Start applying for jobs. Trust me if you are handy and know your job. Getting a job after an internship is easy.
  7. Here you have to make the decision you have to build your own agency, become a freelancer or continue with your work. The work is compulsory for a few years as you will learn how business is done in agencies. How do they get customers, how do they retain customers. How they charge their customers and much more. Then do what you want to do.

For the above steps, you do not have to spend money, yes, the certification may cost you little, but it is affordable and 100 times cheaper than you will pay the institutes.

I have learned this with experience and will suggest you follow it and trust me, you will never regret it.

Now moving forward, what do the top digital marketers do?

The leading digital marketer understands the client's business first. Develop strategies on how to act and then deliver the results. They try to expand the client's business. They customize plans for clients, what will and will not work. This is the mantra that you always remember.

I've seen scam digital marketers every time they get a customer. They start to get money from them without any strategy. They just start with Google ad campaigns and social media posts without any custom plan solutions.

Don't just be a digital marketer, be a good digital marketer. Bring a digital solution for your client. Boost your business growth. You will not lose the customer for life.

I will ask not to spend money on institutes. If you are so interested in going to a degree course from good colleges, then skip these certification courses.

The best digital marketing course is nothing, but the best digital marketer does exist. The best is what looks great on you.

An expense that you will assume if you learn it on your own.

  1. Buy a domain and hosting that will cost you around 2k for 1 year. Don't go for free hosting. Spend a few bucks here.
  2. Google Certification for free in the Google Skills Store.
  3. If you are more inclined towards social media optimization, you can go for Facebook's flatbed certification, which costs around Rs 5700 with tax. This is not mandatory. You can improve your skills from tutorials and apply them to your social media pages and accounts. Ultimately, growth matters and that's what employers care about.

Now, whatever you learn from the tutorials, apply to your domain. Then you will start to learn what works and what doesn't. With these steps, one fine day you will become a great digital marketer.

I know you have many other queries to resolve. You can comment below so that I can address them and guide you so that you can always save money.

I give you a better example. ISRO reached Mars at a cost of 400 million rupees and NASA did the same for 6 billion rupees. Which one do you think did a great job? Of course, ISRO that saved money for the country, which could be used for some other noble cause or some other projects.

One more thing that I would like to share with one of my students in training. Sir, whatever I teach, I always apply it to my live projects. Honestly, your trick works, but when it comes to developing some of my own tips and tricks I have to indulge in experiments that I do on my own, sometimes I have to fail, but I definitely develop some pro tips for the same.

I hope you have understood my point. You have to do experiments. I and other coaches can teach you how to set up Facebook campaigns or Google ads and to some extent some tips so you don't waste your money with blunt mistakes. Post that you have to experiment, you have to dive in the ocean and bring more professional tips that will make you a great digital professional.

Digital marketing is more marketing than technical. You have to write attractive ad copy on Google Ads and you have to play around with the set of keywords that will really set you apart. For Facebook ads, you need to identify the right audience. This cannot be taught anywhere. You have to be a marketing expert.

This is all I wanted to address to all rookies / fans who want to join this field. I have shared real knowledge about my profession. Being in this industry, I want all newbies to be well guided so that we can produce quality professionals.

Follow me here, vote up If you liked it Share it with someone you know who is about to join digital marketing. I tried to save his hard-earned money from my experience, which I have earned.

Build your own platform, work on it. Apply your learnings. Get your own hands-on experience.

No one can stop you from being the star rated digital marketer.

I'm Prashirsh, dating for now.

In addition to figuring out whether or not digital marketing is something that really interests you, you need to know what exactly you want to do. Digital marketing is a broad term, it involves everything that happens on the Internet today.

Are you willing to follow the development of social media, utilize the traffic on those websites, and build a large following that you can monetize? Are you willing to pursue a career as a freelancer?

You need to be more specific if you are looking for the correct answer.

EDIT: Now I see that you have updated your question therefore I am updating my answer.

Since you have started a blog on WordPress, the additional steps you need to take are to create a content creation plan, which will define how often and what type of content you will post on your website.

If you plan to make money from blogging, which is probably your goal, you will need two things: a traffic generation plan and a monetization plan. A traffic generation plan should define methods and ways that you can use to attract people to your website. You can use social media, press releases, guest posts, SEO, or any other useful traffic generation method. Your choice should be closely related to where your audience is located, as you don't want to attract everyone to your website. You only need to bring in people who are interested in your content.

When you start doing that, you could also start working on a monetization plan. That will define how you are going to make money with your blog. The best way, and I'm just talking from my own experience, is to sell your own products (if you can do it) or use affiliate marketing and sell other people's products. Focusing on Google Adsense or any other similar network will not bring you income worth exploring.
